Hello everyone.

I just bought a new harddrive (Seagate Barracuda 2TB) for my new pc as a secondary drive (because the main drive with Windows will be a SSD).

So on my old pc, that I want to sell, I have a lot of steam games that I want to move to the new other drive, to avoid re-downloading them all.

I installed the new harddrive in the old pc, and formatted it in order to use it (I used this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxV6IcNvbek).

Now I will copy all the same steam folders in the exact right order, as on the main harddrive on the new installed hard drive, and paste the steam games in there. I also want to install steam on my new pc on that harddrive.

My question is, once all the games are pasted onto the new harddrive, can I just unplug the harddrive by turning the computer off? Or do I have to perform another step in order to disconnect it?

And if I finished building my new pc, and I put the harddrive with the steam games on it, in my new pc, will windows just detect the harddrive or do I have to format it again? And if I format it, will all my steam games be lost? So will the whole harddrive get wiped? I am really confused by all this.

I hope someone knows the answer on those questions.

Start with the following link to a similar post within this Forum:

And also a link from SteamCommunity.com:

There are other similar links with explanations and procedures on the internet. Avoid 3rd party tools.... Who knows what those tools might actually do or be doing.

Read, plan, and test with only one game. Ensure that your process worked.

Then transfer game by game until finished. Checking as you go.

Per my post in that above link...moving Steam games is built into the Steam client.

In your new PC, the Steam client should be installed on the C drive, just like all your other applications.
You can tell the client about games that live on other drives, and default the games installs to that other drive if desired.
