Hello all
I will be building a gaming PC in a few weeks i have decided that i will be using a GTX1070 as the GPU but that's all i have chosen at this point. I'm looking for help choosing components. preferably i would like to stick to a black and red theme for the system. For storage I am thinking SSD and HDD. I have no budget set at the moment. my main criteria is that the system will be able to run majority of games coming out in the next 3 years at a nice frame rate. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a PC Parts Picker list for a pc that should do you well for around 1300 dollars, let me know if you need the price lowered I can get you a cheaper PC specc'ed.

Difference between 1070 and 1070ti is a mere $50, and its worth the extra buck. Something like this should be good...

8400 should be the right choice for gaming @1080p 60/144hz... https://www.pcgamer.com/intel-i5-8400-review-the-best-new-gaming-cpu-in-years/
You can get Windows activated down the line. Should not affect gaming performance... https://www.howtogeek.com/244678/you-dont-need-a-product-key-to-install-and-use-windows-10/

I think a mix of our offers would be best, the Ryzen 5 1600 and a B350 board, the 1070 ti, the ram I picked out, your SSD and PSU, your case, the fans I picked out, and the 2tb drive. I still the the 1600 will beat the I5 since its 6 cores and 12 threads VS 6 cores 6 threads on the I5, gaming is a task that can't really use more than 6 cores or so and when faced with a task that can't use a lot of cores but prefers core speed over core count, hyperthreading on the 1600 makes up and actually beats the I5 8400 in gaming by a few FPS as well as beats it in other things like encoding or streaming while gaming.

For gaming, i would like to differ. The 8400 beats the 1600 hands down. Check out the benchmarks in the linked article and you should get the idea. Also, I have tested both in my circle of friends, and the 8400s boost clock outshines the 1600 even when OCed massively. There are only a handful of games that even uses 4 cores or more, leave alone 6 cores. By the time games moves to 6 cores full fledged, htese lot of CPUs from both offering should be seeing their sunset.

With Ryzen 2 being out, I would be waiting on more review results to be released for it. The 2600x is a promising chip. Holds its own well against the i5 8xxx, and is a better multitasker. With games finally starting to make more use of multiple cores/threads, it might prove useful.

Optimized your build with better parts...
