Im trying to upgrade my gaming pc. I currently have an i5 6402p and a GTX 1070. I cant choose between an i5 8600k, i7 8700 non K and the i7 8700k. Also im thinking in buying the Asrock z370 extreme4 motherboard. I would like to hear any recomendations for motherboards in the same price range of the asrock.

Also, i’ve never overclocked anything on my pc, so i dont think i would overclock the cpu i end up getting. Thanks in advance

Solution
If you do not overclock a K suffix processor, you are leaving some 20% performance on the table.
You need not do so initially, but keep the option open with a decent cooler and a Z370 motherboard.
Overclocking is as simple as raising the all core multiplier in the bios, leaving all else on auto.

How many expansions slots do you need?
Other than a graphics card slot, the answer for most of us is exactly NONE.
Consider a less expensive M-ATX motherboard like the asrock Z370M Pro4

Few games can effectively use more than 4 threads so the I5-8600K with six is a very effective gamer.
If an extra $130 or so is in your budget and the cost is not bothersome, Go ahead and opt for...

Most 8600K or 8700K can run at 4.8.

If you are not going to overclock:
Choose any mobo that meets your connection requirements, number of RAM sticks, ... You can take from the cheap chipset H370 or B360, i.e. "Asus Rog Strix H370-F Gaming" or "MSI H370 Gaming Plus". You can actually get the cheapest one you can find. if you have gtx 1070 any of the three CPUs is more than enough and I would choose the I7 8700 not k because the stock is almost equal to the K.

If you are going to overclock:
Choose I5 8600K. It overkills gtx 1070.
You need a good Z370 mobo. I also thing ex4 is very good. An alternative is MSI Z370 Gaming M5 or ASUS Prime Z370-A

If it were me and I was not planning to overclock, I'd get a more basic motherboard. Some motherboards are designed for users who are really going to max things out. For instance, unless you are planning to run multiple videocards, you don't need more than one pci-ex slot for a videocard. So plan for what you will really be using, and get a motherboard that offers that. If you're not overclocking I'd favor a CPU with the extra threads. It's going to be a long, long time until that i7 8700 feels inadequate.
