Router keeps dropping connections when wifi is enabled

I have a Linksys WRT54G router with Tomato v1.28.8754 installed.

Recently, the router appears to be dropping connections for my devices, both wired and wireless. My modem maintains a connection, but I lose connection to the router/network itself. On a whim, I decided to disable wifi on the router, and it appears to no longer drop my wired connections. This could merely be a coincidence, of course.

I have also tried to reset the nvram on the router in case there was some configuration that was causing this -- but, once I enabled wifi, it would drop my connections again (after a few minutes).

If you have any ideas, please let me know. My next step will probably just do a complete factory reset on the router, and failing that, get a new router.

Thanks.

Replacing a WRT54G is not a bad thing. They are antique in "router years". As long as you have 1Mbit to 10Mbit ISP connectivity it will handle it. Even your wired connectivity to other devices is limited to 100Mbit. Put that old horse down and spend $20 on a used RT-N56U on E-Bay.
