I am going to buy a 1080 gpu. How would I put it into my computer and make it work? I have not yet brought the new gpu(1080) but I would know to know before hand. Would just putting in the new gpu work? Should I put my 1080 on the top? I am not going to sell my 1060 or SLI them because they can't SLI.

The guide is pretty thorough but just to clarify:

Power down and remove the power lead before starting, NEVER make any internal hardware changes with the power cord connected.

The PCI-e slot may have a different locking tab, some are located at the top ( as in the guide ) some are at the end, those at the end should be pushed down, towards the motherboard to release the GPU. In both cases the tab must be HELD down to release the card.

Be sure the system power supply can handle the upgrade, does it have the correct PCI-E power cable/s? Does it have enough output? If it lacks the required PCI-E power leads it should be changed for one that does, you CAN use molex/PCI-E adaptors but it's a very bad move, especially if the unit is...

Only download the drivers directly from the manufacturer website, nowhere else.

Because you're staying with the Green Team you don't really need to uninstall the current drivers, just use the 'clean install' option when you run the driver package, it should be in the options window.

Which make and model is that PSU? There will be no need to underclock your GPU. Just follow that guide and remember the tips by coozie7, GPU in, cables connected, power up, drivers install. Voila, it's done.

I just installed a 1080 after having a 1060 6gb. Drivers are the same. You will probably want to optimize games in geforce experience after completingthese steps:

Power down
Removed 1060
Installed 1080
Powered on, resolution may be off.
Restart
Done.........

Check GPU Z to make sure gpu is being detected

START GAMING!
