So I bought a 1tb wd hard drive about a week ago & i accidentally dropped it during building up my pc , however when i started it it made a non stop clicking noises & the motherboard wasn't able to reckognise . it so i oppened it up carefully & found that it's head got stuck on the platter & there was a small piece shattered from that orange stuff that holds the head's end & i couldn't move the head back to it (would probably destroy it if i force did lmao) i can move the head easily on the platter btw , any advice ?

i knew that someone would say it , ik i can afford a new one but this one had so much important data that i copied them from my previous 320gb laptop one & games too lmao i mean like gta 5 , bo3 , ac origins etc..... it would take ages to download those games from steam again , anyways i found a solution , that orange thing https://imgur.com/VNRtjY2 broke on impact & it's keeping the writer stuck when moving back to it (to hold it) after i manually release it since it lost it's ramp , i'll see if i can replace it

That's not a "solution".

It was dead when you dropped it.
Opening the case merely put it in the coffin. Poking around with your fingers nailed the coffin shut.
Further messing with it just drops it into the hole.

It's dead, Jim.

"Important data" should always exist on a second or third drive. Always operate with the though that your "important data" is never more than 0.25 sec away from disaster.

Well i just fixed it & it's working perfectly fine by repalcing that thing with my 500gb's one , got anything to say ? And why are you assuming that i was Poking around with my fingers & stuff i'm not an ordinary person that knows nothing about pc components , seems like asking this community gave me nothing but negative feedbacks , thank you all for nothing .....

The way you explained it "head got stuck on the platter" makes it sound like the head actually carved a groove into one of the platters.

The only way to see this would be to disassemble the drive, hence USAFRet posts.

This kind of damage is indeed unfixable.

Any data that stored in that groove is quite literally turned to dust and thrown around the case where it causes more problems.

In any case, I'm glad that isn't the current situation and that the issue was fixed.

In cases like what you described initially, there is almost never a good outcome.
You lucked out.

I hope you're creating good backups, because the atmospheric dust you introduced into that drive will screw things up eventually.

Good luck.
