Hi there! Today i got my new i7 7700k and installed it myself. I have cleaned the old thermal paste on the cooler with an alcohol. I ran a test with intel diagnostic tool program, and the max. Temp was there around 82c. It's not that good but is something i can live with. After the test the temps were down to 45-50. And then i cheked what bios says about the temps. And surprisingly, according to bios i have around 55-60c idlying temp. Intel program says 40 at idling. What is realy going on there?

Mobo: asrock gaming k4 z270
Cpu: i7 7700k
Gpu: evga gtx 1070ti sc3
16gb ddr4 ram
Psu: 650w thriatlor eco bronze 80+

WIndows power management, if set to Balanced, will crank the clock speed down to as low as 800 MHz in idle, resulting in lower temps....

82C is a much too warm just for the Diag Tool, IMO...(My own gets only 59C during that test, which is lower than temps achieved during Battelfield 1...)

Try the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility cpu test...

I'd expect temps 10C higher...

ANd I'd guess you need a different cooler if those 80+C temps were accurate...or if lucky, perhaps it was not mounted down solidly or too much thermal material....

I missed where you even discussed what cooler you were using

Hi, thanks for the answers. My cooler is the bequiet dark rock 3. I have looked my temps from 3 different programs (intel diagnostic tool, intel extreme utility and another one) and they all show the same temps which are quite normal (30-35 idle, 60-65c gaming). Now i have another problem - the pc freezes during gaming. Only during gaming, not in desktop or browsing. I can only press the restart button otherwise it happens nothing. What could be the problem?

Does it freezes on every game?

Check the 'Task Manager' and see if any processes are hogging your system.
Also check the 'Event Viewer' for critical errors.

To answer the question about the idle temp differences: BIOS doesn't give you your true idle temps. The idle temp you are getting from XTU is what your idle temp actually is assuming the CPU is at least 95% idle according to task manager.

I would use prime 95 with FFTs for a 10 min test and see what your true max temps are. If you get above 85C I would reinstall the cooler and retest. If no improvement then get a higher end 250W cooler. The 7700k runs very hot.

Guys, this is normal. Most machines will apply a little extra voltage to your CPU when you're in the bios, vs what is applied to the CPU after POST and in the OS. It's completely normal to see slightly higher CPU temps while in the BIOS. Do NOT use that reading as your "normal use" idle temp for testing and establishing a baseline. Use something like coretemp from inside Windows.

Well i have the case opened and started a game (assassin's creed origins). My gtx 1070 was max under 60% load and 60c, but the i7 7700k was under 95-100% and around 65c. I get very low fps for the configuration (45-70, and 52 on avg). After that i started a userbenchmark test. According the test, cpu and gpu are great. But my ram and m.2 ultra are in the "well below expectations" category. Can it be that? But how? I just changed the cpu...

Is the RAM configured properly in the BIOS?
Is that a RAM kit? What's the RAM model?

Can you post a link to your Userbenchmark results?

Well for now i'm fine. I have the cpu power to 90% from the windows power management and now i get 45-55c on bf1 and not over 60 on assassins creed origin. The next thing i am going to do is to change my bequite dark rock 3 for dark rock 4pro and see what happens than. Thank you all

So guys I have found my solution - i bought a bequiet silent wings 3 and made a push-pull. Now i get max 69c in stress tests.
Game temps are:
Bf1: 55-65, max 68
Nfs payback: 55:65 max 70
Assassins creed origins max 58-65 max 70
I am happy with those temps. I have a full hd 75hz monitor and i get my 75fps all the time without any fps drops - so happy end (for now) :D
