Computer won't boot after overclock/BIOS update.

I decided to update the BIOS on my MSI B350 Tomahawk Arctic motherboard and everything seemed to go well. After that I tried applying some overclocks (3.8GHz on R51600, 3066 on ram, which were my previous settings) and it worked fine. So I thought why not try for a little higher since I have the BIOS updated. Tried 4.0 on CPU and it worked, then tried 3200 on the RAM and it hasn't booted since. I set the Memory Retry thing to 2 boots then reset settings, but it never actually boot loops to retry. It just sits on a black screen, all fans lit up and running, and the EZ Debug LED for CPU and RAM stay on.

Solution

That is because we shut it down without using the Windows shutdown. Hit the rest button to restart the system.

You may want to enter the BIOS any way (usually hitting the delete key repeatedly during the boot up works). You will need to reset the minimum fan settings, memory settings, and the boot priority list.

Then exit saving the settings.

It may require a recovery method to get past the error message . A restore point should work for example. You can use an installation disc to do a start up repair.

I've thought about doing that but honestly I'm a little afraid. I've got the manual and it says "Power off the computer but DO NOT unplug the power cord (system under S5/Soft-off mode) I don't know if it wants me to just power it off with the on/off button, or also switch the power supply off.

In normal operation, you should use the Windows shutdown to turn off the system. Turn the power switch at the power supply to off and unplug it for 30 seconds or so ( a hard boot). Then try booting as normal.

If it still doesn't boot up, clear the CMOS using the instructions in the manual. This may be a button, a jumper, or it may instruct you to remove the motherboard battery.

OK so I reset the CMOS and got the system to boot past the bios with the overclocks, but now its stuck on the Windows 10 loading screen with "Preparing Automatic Repair". But it has been like this for 20minutes.

I got it working by lowering the overclock to what they were at before the BIOS update. I was under the impression that updating the BIOS would allow me a tiny bit more overclocking ability but I guess not. Thanks for the solution.
