This card use to work for me un till I went to a larger computer case now of the 8 ports it only shows 4 but I can get it to show 8 if I unplug all 8 hard drives and restart plug them in again then it will show 8 drives until the computer sleeps or is restarted. which it never use to work like this before.
could this be a failing sata card
should i be looking to buy a new sata card.
I do not need raid that's why i picked the card cause it is not a raid card

Sounds like a drive on that port might be bad. I would take the 1 4Port connection, unplug all but 1 HDD. Turn on, see if it sees it. Turn it off, add one more, until they don't show up. Then skip that drive if it is not the last of the 4. Keep the other 4 that show up plugged in though. If it doesn't show up with even 1 drive then I would unplug the other 4. Then add 1 drive to each set of 4 until you find a problem drive.

It could also just be that 1 of the ports is going bad and not all.

Thank you for your reply
So you think it could be a bad drive I have a thing that I could attach to each drive one at a time and plug in to usb to check but i have done that once before and all drive could be read is there some sort of software I could use to check drive one by one.

All so noticed that it says bios v1.0.0.1023 at start up But could have sworn that it did say v1.0.0.1024 I beleve I found the v1.0.0.1024 but it will not let me update it
I get an error like "cannot set environment variable topdir environment full "

just noticed in your signature CrystalDiskInfo STANDARD will that work

What i mean is unplug the SATA connector to each drive. Then leave one drive plugged in, see if all drives come up, and just go down the line until you start seeing drives that were there but now they aren't and then skip that drive to the next and see if they show up.

sometimes the drive just doesn't play well with the controller. I have had drives that plugged into normal non SATA RAID controllers and USB and not have an issue until it is plugged in with other drives.

I can unplug and plugin, in and out no problems there
did you want me to leave one plugged in shut down plug another in shut down and so on?
if i leave it on and leave one plugged in unplug others then plug in one by one it will show drives no matter what order i plug them in in untill i shut the computer down/restart or it sleeps.

8 drives are a mix of Hitachi(3), Seagate(4), Western Digital(1)

Well right now all drives are working on the i/o card but if i restart it will only show 4 when it comes back to the desktop.
in order for me to get all drive working i have to unplug all 8 restart then then plug the 8 drives back in and they all work till i restart or the computer sleeps then it will only show 4. I have 15 hard drives 1 blu ray. one of the 15 hd's is ssd combined with optane memory. I have been looking to buy new but really do not want to.

I was just hoping that updating bios would fix things but I am having problems there too.

the second is basically what I have now but cheaper then the first.
