https://us.msi.com/file/test_report/TR1_2887.pdf I want the best...right now trying to play farcry 5 and i'm using a gigabyte geforce gtx 960 with 2gb gddr5. i only have 2 slots open for ram and they are ddr3 2x 4 but am getting 2x8 for the max 16 the mobo can hold. My cpu is the top fx 8370. What is not clear to me is why there are so little video cards i can find on the net. the specs call for msi but i'm guessing i can use another brand cause gigabyte works...and pny before that... but does the increace in a gb mean an extra 100usd? If i do get the Radeon HD7970 3gb will it be much better? what about the 4gb gtx? Will it be possabl to play this game on high settings with that mobo?

Soory, yes. i am playing at low settings now. i've been trying to max every thing out.. i am not sure if thats the right term. Upgradeing everything on my mobo. I'm not understanding the diff from gtx 500-1050. I understand the diff of 2 -4 gb but i dont understand the pricing as a 690gtx with 4 gb is 800 usd on new egg and a 1050 gtx with 4 gb was 300.... i'm assuming they stoped testing on the mobo or didnt want any one other than msi to get money is why they didnt list other makers of the cards... so ...still they stoped showing anything under 700 on the msi web site...

The CPU you are using only fits onyo Mobo's that use PCIExpress 2.0 PCI-E 2.0 will work with ANY GPU that has come out in the last 10 years easily. If yo0u have the money you could use a 1080ti on that mobo. So what I would recomend (as long as your power supply has enough 6/8 pin PCI-E connecters and your mobo is SLI compatible, I would try to spend your money and find another 960 and an SLI Bridge. Tha will get you MUCH better performance then a 7970 ever would. In terms of that 7970, getting version with 4GB does nothing for you if you are only using 1.9 of that 4. That means that even a 2GB card would be more then enough for you. The ammount of GB on your card has NOTHING to do with how it performs as long as you are not trying to play a game that will use more ram then the GPU has. ALSO that 7970will perform MUCH less then the 960 you already have.

The list is what msi has tested.
They, naturally want to promote their own brand.
ANY modern graphics card will work.
GTX960 is a decent, but older graphics card.
It is similar in capability to the 7930 so such a change would be pointless.
Here is tom's gpu hierarchy chart for other cards:
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
They recommend three tiers higher for an upgrade.
That would be a GTX1060 or GTX1070.

Before you change, check out your current processor.
The FX line is obsolete and slow for gamers.

Here is my approach on that:
Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer tends to like many threads.

You need to find out which.
------------------------------------------------------------
To help clarify your CPU/GPU options, run these two tests:

a) Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

b) Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.
Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.
Conversely what a 30% improvement in core speed might do.

You should also experiment with removing one or more cores/threads. You can do this in the windows msconfig boot advanced options option.
You will need to reboot for the change to take effect. Set the number of threads to less than you have.
This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many threads.
If you see little difference, your game does not need all the threads you have.

It is possible that both tests are positive, indicating that you have a well balanced system,
and both cpu and gpu need to be upgraded to get better gaming FPS.
