hi,

I hope you guys can help me with this overclock

my hardware :

i7 8700k
msi Z370-A PRO
Corsair Vengeance LPX 3400mhz 2x8
cooler master hyper 212X dual fans
Thermaltake Smart 700W 80+

so basically i overclocked my CPU to 5hz on all cores with 1.345v , LLC lvl4 but after a 10 sec stress test the core clock drops to 4.2ghz and some times to 4.1ghz

with cpu-z stress test i get 4300~ points but after 10 sec the core clock drops and the score drops with it to 3900~ points

my motherboard VRMS max temp was around 65
my cpu max temp was around 90

here is the pictures :

95C is much too hot.
Do you have your CPU set to 100% under Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Power Options/Edit Plan Settings/Change Advanced Power Settings/Processor power management->Minimum Processor State? Also 90C is too high for daily use I would say; try to keep it around 80C max in stress testing.

ty for replying,

i dont think the temperature is the issue because i tried 4.7ghz on all cores with 1.25v and it did the same it dropped after 10 sec to 4.3~ and the temps were 70c

....

PS: AVX is set to 0 and ring ration is at 4400mhz

First of all cpuz is not a stress testing tool. To stress your cpu, you need to use Aida64, prime95v2.26, or other apps similar to those. Second, notice your lows are in the mid 40c range. They should be in the upper 20s to low 30s at idle. That heatsink is not made for a 5.0ghz overclock. It is ok for stock maybe up to 4.5ghz but that is about it. I guarantee if you use that heatsink on a real stress test to check for stability you will top 100c which instantly will throttle your cpu down. Get a better heatsink and try again.

Personally I prefer AIO liquid coolers. This or something similar would suffice for your needs.

Oh ya, and nothing in your control panel has anything to do with the way your cpu overclocks. It is all in the bios.

my friend its not the temperatures i did a 4.7ghz on all cores with 1.2v and the same thing happened on CINEBENCH R15 and Prime95 Small FFTs torture test

Ok here is another way to think about it. Just for kicks I raised my 8600k to 5.1ghz. The vcore is really too high to use in every day use. Also If I stress tested it with prime95 the temps would be way to high for my Corsair H100v2.0. However I can still do Cinebench without putting too much heat on my cpu. My H100v2.0 is vastly superior to your Hyper 212x. Since this is a fact, how do you suppose yours can handle that kind of heat? I will next do ten minutes on prime 95 which also puts plenty of heat on the cpu. However I will do that at 5.0ghz with much lower voltage. Oh also being able to do Cinebench does not necessarily mean your system is stable. Since I would not even think about stressing my cpu at 5.1 without either delidding it and or using a 360 aio I can't really tell. I will next do ten minutes on prime 95 which also puts plenty of heat on the cpu. However I will do that at 5.0ghz with much lower voltage.

i solved the issue with Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility :D

just up the ( Turbo Boost Power Max ) to 125W in my case and it ran 5ghz all the times with a toasty temps of 95c ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
