I've recently come across an issue where games such as Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege and GTA V will completely lock up my game and my computer after about 5-10 minutes of gameplay, requiring a hard reset of the computer. I assumed the problem was just Siege, in which the lockup occurred the quickest on this game (even after assuming it was a graphical issue by adjusting in-game graphics settings) but then I played about 30 minutes of GTA V to come across the same problem.

The first issue with the entire computer, however, resulted in the same programs completely turning off my computer, in the sense that the monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. would turn off, but the components inside my tower would still be working (led's still lit, fans spinning, etc.) The fix for this problem seemed to be a BIOS update, which worked well for about a month until the problem above began occurring. I'm beginning to think it's my processor, as it's the only component I haven't re-seated due to an attempt at finding physical damage/upgrading the part, such as putting a better cooler on the GPU to replace the single-fan (due to the temps on the GPU reaching maximums of 80 degrees Celsius during gameplay, now at a cooler 50-60 Celsius.) I had never thought my processor to be the culprit in the past, however, as temps for my cpu with a stock cooler had only ever reached upwards of 60 degrees celsius. Other than this, I've disabled game boost in my BIOS. After months and months of extensive researching throughout these forums and many other sites, I'm giving up on my search and giving it to the community. And advice is appreciated :)

Specs:

Nvidia GTX 1060 3gb (added cooler; Accelero Twin Turbo II)
Ryzen 5 1600 processor (with stock cooler)
Samsung 2 tb SSHD
EVGA 500w Bronze PSU
1x8 DDR4 Ballistix Sport LT 2666 mt/s Memory

If any other system info is needed, please ask. I'm not the most professional with computers :)

If you ran memtest and it did not come up with any errors, I think it's now safe to assume that it's the CPU. Computer freezing during Prime95 is either RAM or CPU, and any RAM issue is usually detected by memtest, which only...
Run memtest86, it might be a RAM issue(unless you've already tried replacing the RAM as well). Also run AIDA64 FPU stress test to see if there is any problem with the CPU under heavy load. It could also be a power supply issue, but there's no precise way of testing that except using a different power supply that is known to work perfectly.

I HAVE replaced the psu, thank you for bringing this to my attention. I had been using a slightly older Corsair vs500 w bronze PSU before recently replacing it. I'm currently using prime95 to run a cpu stress test though. How long should I leave it running & what should I be looking for?

Prime95 can give an error if something is wrong - I think around an hour is enough - if something is seriously wrong, the computer might freeze/crash. If either of these happen(error/hang/crash), then your CPU or RAM is most likely bad. At this point, running memtest86 is a good idea. So, first, let Prime95 torture the system, and just look for the error, or for the very obvious freezes or crashes.

You replaced one Low end PSU with another low end PSU.

And your ram isn't running in dual channel mode because you only have one stick instead of a dual channel kit.

And the GTX 1060 is the 3GB vers, there is a big difference in the 3GB and 6GB GTX 1060's and it's not just the amount of ram.

So the system is pretty handicapped for playing AAA games.

Yep, computer just locked up during the stress test, but max temps for the cpu were 65 Celsius.

Edit: Windows now freezes instantly at a BIOS boot. No memtest or cpu errors detected by programs.

If you ran memtest and it did not come up with any errors, I think it's now safe to assume that it's the CPU. Computer freezing during Prime95 is either RAM or CPU, and any RAM issue is usually detected by memtest, which only leaves the CPU. I'd say get it replaced. If possible, try to run it in a different system and see if it does the same thing there. If you can't do that, just get it replaced.
