Good day
I am trying to upgrade from onboard graphics to Sapphire Radeon rx550 graphics card, but monitor first
stated "no signal". I first disabled the onboard graphics, then shut down pc. I then installed graphics card in PCIE slot and plugged in the VGA cord to the graphic card via a VGA/DVI-D converter.I switched the pc back on and there's only a black screen with above mentioned error. My system has the latest bios installed and I set the primary video adaptor to PCIE. The UEFI and legacy mode in bios is enabled too.
I then bought a new VGA cable and VGA/HDMI cable, still black screen. When I plugged in the VGA/HDMI cable, the error on screen now states "No cable connected". I have an old ACER flat screen monitor AL1717 series, which does not give me the option to switch to HDMI mode, when VGA/HDMI cable is installed. When I unplug the graphic card, then the PC works fine. There are no beeps, CPU fan and graphics card fan is spinning when PC is switch on. My PC has all the minimum requirements including a 450 watts psu, when the minimum is 400 watts.Even removed and re-installed DDR3 memory cards, issue not resolved. Also used the DDU[Display Driver Uninstall ]software to uninstall onboard driver, but to no avail. Please help.

Solution
I think the problem is with the adapter. Newer cards do not support analog signal, so you would need an active adapter, either DVI-D, DP or HDMI to VGA should work, as long as it's active.

The DVI-connector is plugged in all the way and monitor is switch on. I have now done some further research and now know the difference between passive and active adaptors. I clearly have a PASSIVE adaptor and probably need an ACTIVE adaptor. Please confirm If I should get the ACTIVE VGA/HDMI adaptor or the VGA/DISPLAY port adaptor?

Anything will work for your signal issue. Display port is supposed to have the best quality. Consider the budget though. VGA to HDMI will also do without any drawback
