I have an I7-8700K, at 3.7ghz. When idle and almost everything is closed, temperatures are at about 55-60 degrees celcius. When in games, it is about 65-68 degrees celcius, with a Cryorig H7 cooler. Is this bad for my cpu or am i okay?

Solution
Yes. Sitting idle at the desktop, your cpu speed should read 1.6ghz or less after a few seconds.

Your vcore should read 1.0ish, maybe less.

As I said, you should be in the 30s somewhere in that state with a 70F ambient.

Edit: It should clock down to 800mhz at complete idle, voltage may not drop much, especially if you used MCE or cranked up LLC. My H5 is better than the 7 but not by a wide margin and I'm sub-30C idle - just checked.

Might want to try and re-mount the cooler with new thermal paste. Could be a screwy sensor - have you tried different programs to read it?
The 7th and 8th generation Intel I7 processors are big heat monsters. The I7 8700k is a 95w processor that requires a cooler than can handle 130 watts TDP. The Cryorig H7 is enough for basic cooling but not for for good cooling on the I7 8700k. You need 6 heatpipes or more for good cooling. The H7 only has 4.

If you are looking for better cooling, you can get a Noctua NH-D15, Quiet Rock Dark Pro 3, or other higher end 6-heatpipe cooler which would be recommended at the very least for better temps. Delidding/relidding your processor would help you get better temperatures as well.

The I7 8700k can handle temps of up to 100C, so you still have plenty of room before it starts throttling.

Your temps at idle are about what you should be expecting from a non-delidded processor and an H7 Your gaming temps are actually kind of good, considering.
