Only fortnite having sudden fps drops and freezing every 5 seconds

I've been have this issue in windows 8.1(highest windows my computer can run) and windows 7. i ran windows 10 for awhile but it never work correctly and only played games well, then the computer was having compatibility issues and blue screening, bur when it worked, fortnite ran a smooth 60 fps, on windows 8.1 lag spikes happen, sudden freezing, I'll go from 60 to 2 fps instantaneously and i don't know why. please HELP!
Specs: Alienware m17 r1(NOT M17X!!)
Cpu: Intel Core 2 Quad CPUQ9000
Gpu(s) amd radeon hd 3870x2 (crossfire compatible which is on)
Yes i know it's and old system but in other games i can run medium settings just fine.
