Can you make a PC2-6400s ram stick fit in a pc2100u the pins line up?

Solution
the difference is DDR1 and DDR2, it´s technically not possible to use DDR2 with a DDR1 CPU and therefore it´s made impossible to plug in a DDR2 into a DDR1 slot by purpose.
Ok, I searched a bit longer for that and found a simple adapter for DDR1 modules to plug into DDR2 board slot (e.g. with a VIA PT880 Pro chipset). It really depends on the chipset / RAM controller and can work, if the controller can address DDR1 and DDR2.
Don´t know if this engineering sample was ever produced.
The next difficult thing is, the BIOS of the motherboard has to know what to do if DDR1 or DDR2 is installed.

That is impressive, can you find one to put DDR3 into a DDR2 slot?? It would solve the problem I have with my daughters PC; the Xeon cpu runs like a greased weasel, but the DDR2 ram is limited to 4GB due to the lack of Intel compatible 4GB modules.

Hi,

It is a E5450 on an ASRock G31M-S; the board only has 2 RAM slots, limiting her to 4GB of RAM, which is OK, 8GB (the boards offcial limit), would be better, but 2 x 4GB DDR2 Ram modules for Intel based systems - if you can find them - cost well over £100.

It is a very old board, but it performs very well, and plays fairly demanding games reasonably well, including cpu single core monsters like LOTRO. In fact (bearing in mind she is 5 y/o; I havent had an issue with anything I have thrown at it yet.
