Power Supply Issues

Hello! I recently purchased a 650W Gold EVGA PSU into a new system build. I am currently running an EVGA 1070 TI with 2x 8 pin connection requirements.

My certain power supply came with 1 cable that had 2x 8 pin which I decided to use. I had no issues on the initial boost and even overclocked the GPU on MSI.

My issue - I noticed that I started to get a lot of FPS dips and I eventually restarted the PC and from then, I would get blank screens or sometimes even no signal coming from my monitor when I turned the PC on. I can also visibly watch my graphics card fans spin up and then they shut off about the time the UEFI screen would pop up.

Think i should run 2x cables instead of the 1x for the 8 pin connection?

Oh, that is slightly different. So to better answer your question, you should try running a second cable. If the single cable is incapable of pushing the juice necessary to drive the card, then that would remedy the situation. You would think that a 650W PSU would be enough to run a card like that, and you'd be right, but the 650W rating is a combined output. Each leg off of the PSU has its own rating, and those are a bit harder to find. So running a cable off of each leg will allow the card access to more power.

Also some mb have a sata power input along side that provide upto 75w if I'm not mistaken for when the pcie slots are pulling to much juice. I belive it's designed for sli configs but might be benifical in this case If your 2 eight pins aren't working. Of course read your MB manual and take my words with a grain of salt......xD
