If my motherboard box says “Ryzen 2000 desktop ready” does that mean it can run a Ryzen 2000 [strike]chip[/strike] CPU right out of the box without a bios flash? Specifically a 2700x?

Solution
^ it is but asrock (& amd) state that these boards will at least boot to bios to reflash to the latest bios to fully support the new chips.

Yes, you should be able to run the 2700X with that motherboard right out of the box. What motherboard did you buy for your 2700X? Having this information will allow for us to verify the compatibility. Also, I recommend you check to see if there is a BIOS update for that motherboard once you have successfully booted up into Windows.

It’s an AsRock AB350 Pro. I’m not able to do a bios flash right now which is why I’m asking

I heard that that’s only for the 2400 and 2300 chips

Did you go to the AsRock website and check the support section for that specific model? The only way to know for sure is to install the 2700X and boot up. If it posts and starts Windows, you will have your answer.

You are partially correct, as 2200/2400 need 4.60 version, and 2600/2700 need 4.70 version. So it could be that board has only 4.60 and will not boot with 2700x CPU. However, the idea behind "Ryzen 2000 desktop ready" sign is that it runs with all 2xxx CPU - but how each manufacturer holds up to the idea is another problem.

Hence the reason why I asked if they had checked the motherboard manufacturer's website to verify ;-)
