Help with Adjusting RAM Timings

I have two sets of Corsair XMS3 RAM that I am trying to use in my latest ASRock 970A-G/3.1 build and am having issues. Specifically I am having stability issues after about 5 minutes of running. the Motherboard adjusts the frequency to match, so I suspect it's a timing issue, however I am unsure what needs to be adjusted for proper operation.

Here are the two sets of memory I have:

Solution
Remove all the RAM, only use the Cl11 RAM ( the 1st set, Model CMX16GX3M2A1600C11 ), boot into the BIOS, use AMD Memory Profile Technology (AMP), you can check the manual to see how to. Then save and exit, reboot the PC to see it can run stable or not. If it does. Shutdown the PC, add the 2nd set ( CMX16GX3M2A1333C9 ), then boot the PC. Hope the pc can run fine.

Otherwise, if the PC can not run stable with 4 sticks RAM, then you need to manually to set the timing to 11-11-11-33 in the BIOS. After that try to boot the PC again.

Here's the requested information. What's interesting is that physically the same RAM is in slots 1 and 3, (A1 and B1 as labelled on the board.) but CPU-Z is picking them up as being in slots 1 and 2.

I did as you suggested, but it doesn't look like the settings took I was hoping to get 11-11-11-30 like you suggested. (despite me saving settings.)

Because you mixed two sets of the memory, also they have different timing too. So may just install the 1333mhz set RAM, you may try 9-9-9-27-36 or 10-10-10-30-40. Save and shut down the PC, plug in the 1600mhz RAM, boot the PC. Also may up the voltage little bit to 1.515V or 1.520V, it depends on your MB.

One more thing, what cpu did you use?

I will try this when I get the chance, but I'm using an FX-9590 CPU.

The problem is that you used the fx9590 with ASRock 970A-G/3.1. Don't trust the asrock site said the MB can support the fx9590.

Also you may have other problem like the PSU, or cooling too. One thing you want to do, if you can return the fx9590 ( I don't know when you bought it), just do it. forget about it. It just the fx8350/70 ocing version.

If you can't return the fx9590, just disable two cores in the BIOS, and don't buy other 990 chipset MB for the fx9590, keep in mind you will need the high-end 990 chipset MB for fx9590, also you need a good cooler, like Corsair H100i, and a good 750W PSU, which it depends on what GPU you had.

So forget about the RAM setting, disable two or even more cores in the BIOS, then test the PC to see it can run stable or not.

Here's my full setup.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Taki117/saved/#view=hsLGf7

It runs stable if I only have one set of RAM installed, but regardless of which set I use the timings stay the same in the BIOS and as indicated in CPU-Z, and while I don't need 32GB of RAM I would like to feel like I didn't waste the money when I bought them.

I see.
And now you may try:
1) update the chipset driver https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows+8.1+-+64
2) because there is not BIOS update, you can try clear the CMOS by the jumper or removing the CMOS battery, remember to unplug the power core from wall outlet.
3) Like I said before, if you can return the fx9590, just do it. And buy the fx8320 or fx 8350, then oc the cpu, because you had the h115i.
4) For the RAM, use the 1st set only, CMX16GX3M2A1600C11, because the fx cpu like the higher RAM speed. Also make sure enable the AMD Memory Profile Technology (AMP) in the BIOS.
5) Keep an eye on your PC, even the MB ( ASRock 970A-G/3.1) has 8+2 power phase, but I still recommend to disable one or two cores. One more I don't know you pay attention to the asrock site about that MB cpu support list. They said if you use fx9590, you should use install a decent liquid cooling system and additional air fan to cooling the CPU and its surrounding components. http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970A-G3.1/#CPU
That means you should do like this: http://www.overclock.net/forum/11-amd-motherboards/1465363-asrock-fm2-extreme-6-vrm-heatsink-3.html or http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php/720295-Custom-VRM-VCORE-and-Motherboard-Cooling-is-it-worth-it
