HDD failed did not have backup trying to replace with existing SSD

Custom built gaming PC
- i7-6700k
- Gigabyte Z170M-D3H MoBo
- 1TB HHD (failed)
- 1TB SSD
- 250 GB SSD
- Windows 10 (updated to latest version)

I'm trying to use the 1TB SSD that was already installed to replace the failed HDD, but the HDD had the Windows 10 OS.

I installed the SSD on P1 in Boot Options, but when I attempt to boot up the system I am sent (after the Gigabyte screen that shows BIOS and BOOT options) to a screen that says:

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key


SATA Mode Selection is set to AHCI
Other PCI Device Rom Priority is set to UEFI

Not sure what to do since I don't have an OS backup on disc or USB. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Whatever is on that 1TB SSD, you need to move it to elsewhere. Installing the OS on that will wipe whatever is on it.
There are methods to save that, but if you can move that data off it (or accept the fact that its gone), it is MUCH easier.

So, you're going to do a clean install on this 1TB SSD.
Just like starting from day one.

Create your own Win 10 USB or DVD install here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Disconnect all drives except for the one you want the OS on.

What drive was the OS on? The failed 1TB HDD?
Where did the OS come from?
What drive do you want the OS one? What is your desired end state?
What is on that drive currently?

What you're seeing now..."Reboot and select proper boot device or...." is what is to be expected.
You have no OS to boot from.

And I gotta say it...why didn't you have a backup of the C drive (and all other data)?

Yes, the OS was on the failed HDD.

The OS was loaded when the PC was built by someone else.

I want to install the OS on the 1TB SSD that was already part of the system.

The drive has 525 GB of free space and contains mostly PC games (Steam).

All of my important data is stored on an external drive, so the only real problem is getting an OS installed on the SSB. That being said, failing to have a plan to deal with this was a pretty dumb mistake on my part.

I don't have a flash drive with enough capacity, so I'm going to head out to BestBuy to grab one. Thanks for the assistance!
