High-End Computer performing poorly

I’ve had problems with my recently new built computer. It’s not performing close to how it should. I’ve read as many posts as i could instead of making my own trying to not make it harder for you guys. But at this point i’m desperate and ready to try anything. All ideas and tips are appreciated!

When i play Overwatch, my fps is very unstable, It jumps between 200 -275 constantly when im out of combat, And then goes to 130 during combat. (This is on the low preset). In also struggling with fps in other titles like Fortnite or Witcher 3.

Specs:

MSI GTX 1070 ARMOR OC

intel i7-8700k @ 4.3Ghz

Fractal Design Integra M 650 W

1x16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3000MHZ

Asus Prime z370-P

BenQ XL2411 144HZ 1080p

Things ive tried and done.

Reinstalling windows

reinstalling drivers

Checked task manager

Checked power plan and nvidia control panel(turned on maximum performance, vsync off, etc)

Set bios to default.

ran xmp profile

Checked cpu multiplier, frequency

Display is connected to GPU.

Xbox DVR is turned off

Cpu is on 30c when idle and 45 while in games.

Gpu 40 then 60-65 in games.

I was thinking if it’s the RAM running single channel, but could that make such a huge difference?

Any replies are appreciated!

This might sound silly, but I'm trying to cover the bases. Is your monitor plugged into the graphics card or the motherboard, and are you using the PCI-E 3.0 slot on your motherboard.

MSI GTX 1070 ARMOR OC

There are several reviews that say MSI's Armor Cooler was utterly trash and caused GPU's to Thermal Throttle and not perform at their Clock speeds..

I hate to say it, but I think you bought the wrong GPU my friend.

Its plugged into the GPU. Not a silly question at all in my opinion :).

The GPU is also plugged into the PCIe 3.0 16x, Thought it was a 4x only but that wasn’t the case

You might be correct Phil, but i’ve seen different benchmarks showing people getting better fps with the Armor OC. I still think it’s something else.

Single channel ram may be a possibility as there have been tests that proof, dual channel ram reduces 1% lows and increase overall Minimum FPS in games, providing more smooth gameplay. Dual Channel helps reduce frame rate drops to sustain a better average FPS.

Its either the RAM or the MSI Armor after market cooler causing the GPU to not perform at its maximum potential.

Just pick up another 16GB stick and run dual channel 32GB. 16GB is currently the sweet spot, but will eventually get taken over as games are already reaching 10-12GB of RAM. So, you'll be better off with 32GB anyways. So it doesn't hurt to make that upgrade.

Update:

Haven’t gotten the ram yet, but my performance has kind of become worse. My fps is influctiating much more in Overwatch. While being in a game im hitting 300-200 now and can drop to 120 during combat. Temps are still fine. Could this be a sign of some problem?

300-200 FPS In overwatch with a GTX 1070 sounds about right for 1080p performance. If you were getting less than 100 FPS in this title, then I would be a bit more concerned. But, you're well over 200!

Adjusting the graphic quality of games down to low preset, transfers a majority of the load from the GPU to the CPU, testing the CPU's true power.

If you went to ultra details, It would even out the playing field a bit more and things would be more GPU bound.
