I upgraded my T3400 to Windows 7. After a year, it started giving weird characters across the screen. NVIDIA was incompatible after some automatic update. It was semi-funcitional in safe mode with NVIDIA uninstalled. What can I do to be able to get back into my PC? When I boot it, it gives me jumbled characters and won't even get me to the login screen.

Solution
The T3400 has 2 PCIe 16X slots. You might try the other one. Try booting into Safe Mode (F6) this runs at a low level with no GPU drivers. System Restore will be available there. If it won't do Safe Mode I would start suspecting a hardware issue.
Another trick is to boot into Linux from a Live DVD with the HDD disconnected. This will eliminate any software issues from the equation. malware, failing drive, bad software. Linux Live DVD can be downloaded, or they come with many of the Linux magazines.

I tried other nvidia downloads and they didn't work. I can't log in to do a restore point, but when I did, it would just reinstall the graphic stuff that wasn't compatible. I'm not very tech savvy - gpu slot?
