[Problem Description]
Good day Sir/Madam

I bought this ASUS Vivobook s510u in January of 2018. The specifications is:
-15,6" LCD screen
-Intel i7 -7500U
-8GB 2400mHz RAM
-1TB 5400rpm HDD
-940 Nvidia GeForce 2gb GPU

I decided to upgrade the laptop and add an additional 8GB 2400mhz RAM module and since there is support for M.2 SATA SSD, I bought a Crucial MX300 525GB M.2 SSD.
After I received the SSD and RAM modules I installed the RAM and M.2 SSD correctly. Once I turn the computer on and entered the BIOS the extra 8GB RAM module was showing so I had a total of 16GB RAM. Then I went to look if the M.2 SSD is picked up in the system, but nothing was showing.

I booted the laptop completely and checked in device manager if the Crucial M.2 was showing, but still no sign of the SSD. Thus I went back to the suppliers where I bought the M.2 SSD from and asked them to test if the Crucial M.2 SATA SSD is working and they confirmed that the SSD was working perfectly. I updated the BIOS when I bought the laptop with the newest firmware with the software that was provided on the laptop something like EZflash.

I can confirm that the Crucial SSD works it was tested. Could it be that the Vivobook S510U does not support the SSD? Should I rather concider buying a MX500 500GB M.2 SATA SSD as they are supported by the Vivobook on Crucial's website?

Solution
Since bios is not showing anything m.2 even as empty there is a high chance it is not accessible by the bios for some reason. If it is working then there have to be an option of sata m.2 configuration in bios.
Is taking a mx500 just to check is a option for you? If you can return if found not working then do it.
However it has less chance that the removing hdd will work. It does not seem to be the case for you. But pls give it a try.

Ok, Please check these info,
1. In BIOS is there any option even grayed out which shows PCIe SSD/M.2/M.2 SATA and you can not select or open it?
2. Is there nothing in the bios looks like M.2 connection?
3. Since this M.2 is sata based, some mobo only detects M.2 SATA when other SATA connection are not in use just to allocate the total bandwidth of the SATA connection. In that case I would suggest you just to remove the internal HDD connection and then check if something appears in the menu or not.

Okay I haven't tried removing the HDD yet will do so. Once I am in the BOIS there is no M.2 option anywhere. When I go through the storage devices in the BOIS it is the 1TB that is listed and Serial ATA Port 1 and Serial ATA Port 2. When I go to Advanced> SATA Configuration, it shows SATA Mode Selection which can only be AHCI and then it lists my 1TB HDD.

I have contacted ASUS buy they said they cannot confirm that the Crucial MX300 is compatible with the Vivobook S510UQ. And on top of that I scanned through Crucial's Official website and the only M.2 SSD they they show that is compatible with the Vivobook is the M.2 MX500 series of SSD's.

Should I consider swapping the MX300 for a MX500 or could the M.2 SATA port be dead ?
