Hi. I bought a used Dell Studio XPS 435T/9000 2 years back for normal work tasks. It consisted of an i7 920, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GT 220, Dell 0X501H Mobo and a 475W PSU at the time. Since then i have gotten into gaming and i have swapped out the GPU for a GTX 750Ti and i have also changed out the stock cpu cooler for a Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO. Now I want to upgrade my CPU and I found a Xeon X5675 for $52. I have searched up if my motherboard (Dell 0X501H) is compatible with this CPU and on some websites, it says that it is however i cant seem to find anyone who has done this exact modification. Is there someone here who has done something similar who can tell me if this will work or not?

NOTE: I have noticed unlike other Dell Systems, this one is pretty up gradable. When i had to install the cooler, the existing backplate was not glued onto the motherboard, rather it was held onto the case by 4 screws. There are also two 6 pin plugs for gpus etc etc, so wouldnt it be a higher chance that the new cpu works with this?

Solution
1. well aside from revealing its an Intel motherboard, Dell is not statingin a public document what model it is, and it doesn't matter to be honest at this point.

2. The Intel W xeon series cpu has been proven to work, where the X series is not shown to work (have not found anyone that has declare tada! it works)

3. Based on performance alone, the W3680 beats the X5675 and the W3680 can be had for 50$ on ebay. w3690 is in the 200$ range.

Have fun with the upgrade and let us know how it started and dont forget top get BIOS A16 upgraded with old cpu before changing to new cpu.

does that answer...

okay the problem with Dell systems is that there are 3 companies that ca make motherboards for them so providing the model of the desktop is not sufficient to discover if that Xeon will work on that system.

can you look on the case there is a dell label and a Service Tag Number on it, can you provide that code please it should provide me with the complete details. regarding motherboard .

NOTE: you will need A15 or A16 Bios installed to get your motherboard to accept cpus listed below

in general I found a old thread about this system :https://www.dell.com/community/Desktops-General/Studio-XPS-435t-9000-compatible-processor-list/td-p/4101387/page/2
and found this information that I quote below, seemingly there should be possibilities.... but please answer my question above.

Lastly someone refers to the limitation of known used motherboard chipset for this Dell type

hope that helps

The unlocked Xeons support DDR3 1333, the others are 1066. The XPS series was intended for gaming and multimedia use. They're not like Dells business computers. X5687 is a 4 core Westmere EP Xeon 3.6GHz. The testing I'm familiar with was done on the T3500/5500 X58 workstations so no guarantees on the XPS.
