USB to SATA adapter needed

I have a coworker with a portable external hard drive (WD My Passport Ultra) that is no longer recognized by any PC when hooked up via usb. When this happened with a larger desktop external drive I simply pulled the hard drive out of the casing and hooked it up to the motherboard through a sata cable and we were able to extract all of the files. Unfortunately, after dissection, I found this tiny portable hard drive only has a usb micro b connection. Are there any adapters out there that go from usb to sata? There are more than enough sata to usb, but none of them seem to advertise that they are bi-directional.

Thanks but there isn't actually any separate enclosure with the WD My Passport drives, the micro usb connector that you plug into the outside is actually attached to the drive itself and the case around the drive is only there for protection. The My Book drive in this thread is something different entirely.
