Hello all, my daughter lives next door to me like right out my back door, and she is over here about all day long helping me due to being very sick and different kinds of health problems. Well she has wifi through spectrum (time warner cable? at her place, but it dont pick up very good in my place and I really don't need wifi myself i hardly ever use it, but her brother in law give her another spectrum modem and router that they had purchased and dont need anymore. So her question is and she has been asking all over us there a way to splice that modem and router into hers to make the wifi strong over here at my place? She wouldnt worry too much about it but while shes here she likes to try to do her college classes online and with her helping me until my husband gets off of work then her having to be at work for second shift shes starting to fall behind, but she doesnt want to leave me by myself either due to falling a lot. Does anyone have any suggestions at all? Thank you so much in advance.

A AP is basically a dumb device that converts ethernet to wifi....slight over simplification.

Almost any router can be used as a AP by just not using the router part of the device. Some routers have a AP function but I suspect yours does not since it has a modem in it. Still all you do is just cable to the LAN ports instead of the wan. You then disable the DHCP server function and set the lan ip to something that does not conflict with the main router.

Maybe but depends on a lot of stuff. You would have to use the device as a AP. The challenge though is you must get a ethernet cable from the main router to this second router/ap and most importantly this second router must be place in a location that give better signal at your house.

Maybe in a window on the side of facing your house. Now if it is really close enough you could run a ethernet cable from her house to yours and put this other router/ap in your house.

I believe I understand everything your saying but could you explain what you mean by an ap? Sorry I'm not very tech savy, but I appreciate you helping me oiy on this.
