Hello

i have i7 7700 CPU and CM 212 LED cooler
about 1 week ago i noticed that my CPU temp goes up to 89C, when CPU usage is 100%, when 20-30%, then 50-60C

i opened my PC case and checked how hot is the cooler, and seems like it is pretty cold.

could it be thermal paste problem or cooler itself?

Hyper 212 is a good cooler, the led is the same as evo version. No need to change or go water.

Redo paste, its in your hands and think you'll do a better more passionate job than the mon to fri system builder. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean off old paste with fibreless towl.

Cant go wrong with many pastes. Cm 212 is decent, so is Noctua nh1. Just dont know how much they applied.

Have you checked temps before at 100% cpu usage? Whats the difference from then till now? What app are you using to put load on cpu? And if you can remember the last app used previously if temps were better?

Or you've done none of the above until now and noticed higher temps? Which case what app are you using? If prime95 do include version.

i was playing Battlefield 1 and noticed that my CPU goes up to 100%, then i decided to check temp with CPUID HWMonitor

i am using this CPU and Cooler more than 6months and 2 weeks ago i got error after bios loaded, that cooler not found, then i unplug and plug back cooler power cable and error disappear.... i suppose that was, because i was cleaning my PC and could be touched that cable

Hows your idle temps? Whats your room temp?

What resolution are you playing Bf1 in? Low resolution below 1080p would use cpu more but shouldn't cause 100% usage constantly. How long does full usage last?

Run a malware scan to be sure.

Keep an eye on processes in task manager.

If nothing malicious is going on, run a few cpu benches like intelburntest and monitor temps.

Use hwinfo rather than hwmonitor, its more accurate. https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

in BF1 i have ultra settings, 1080p resolution and 120fps limit, because i am using 75MHz monitor and nVidia fast-sync

100% isn't constant usage, usually having ~70-80%, but on maps loads it goes up to 100%
with 70-80% usage CPU temp is 70-83C, its not that much, but still would like to have lower

idle temp is ~30-35C

i checked for malwares, when had 1second freeze in games like World of tanks, but it happened only once in 1-4h, then some1 told me to change my RAM from 2100 to higher, so i got 3200 RAM and problem was fixed

i will try https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php and will check if there is any difference, but still it is weird that cooler is pretty cold and CPU has over 80C

Feel the heatsink closer to the cpu and not top. The fans will be doing their job dissipating heat so the top would be quite cool.

Im trying to avoid suggesting redoing thermal paste . If you do, just use a pea drop worth ot paste and allow the sink to evenly spread. To tighten heatsink use finger strength, screwing each side evenly like a car tyre, opposite sides. Then with a screw driver half turn.

With your ram, someone suggesting faster ram to fix an issue, if you could explain what you had at the time, was it single or dual channel memory config? Intel isnt fussed in memory speeds, dual channel matters more and so does capacity. 8GB ram isn't enough these days, 16 or 2x8 GB for dual channel is recommended.

Dual channel allows cpu to access twice the memory bandwidth.

here is SS from HWiNFO https://image.ibb.co/kajaic/qqq.png it was running over 30mins with some softwares and Moonlight Blade(this game even on ultra graphic settings using ~30% CPU and GPU)

i am thinking to try one of these: https://www.gamingscan.com/best-thermal-paste/

i was thinking to change cooler to EVGA CLC 120, but no space in pc case, so then i will need new case as well
