Hi, I've bought a second hand pc from a store, everything works well except that it doesn't have sound device, so I can't have audio unless I plugin my headphones. I called the guy and all he say is that the pc doesn't come with sound device... I am curious, what is sound device? Is it related to the sound card? How can I get a sound device? thanks

Solution
I think so. If you have sound with headphones then there is nothing wrong with the PC at all and the onboard sound + drivers are working. The computer needs speakers (headphones, 2.1 speakers, 5.1 speakers etc) to output sound. The computer likely doesn't have built in speakers to output sound.

If you have sound with headphones then you already have a "sound card". Don't listen to above person.

And in this situation your headphones are a "sound device". Another type of "sound device" could be a set of speakers you plug into the same place you plug your headphones.

download and run it then paste the info back here.
if the mb a few years old the onboard sound chipset is realteck.
they have two drivers one for older mb and one called hd driver. most newer mb use the newer hd driver.
if the pc is not a pre built open the case and read the cards installed. the top card in the case is your gpu that your monitor is plugged into. if there an after market sound card is may say soundbalster or asus on it. there be a model on the card to where you can download the drivers for that card.

Not always no. You see them more in OEM machines but not all computers have built in speakers. Mine doesn't have any either. If I don't have headphones or standing speakers connected to the sound ports I will have no audio output at all. Basic 2.1 speakers are pretty cheap.
