Hi,

I'm thinking about upgrading my AMD FX 4100 so I can record my PUBG gameplay without dropping my FPS. I'm wondering what AMD CPU should I switch to without breaking the bank.
I'd prefer AMD so I don't have to get a new MOBO.

Desktop specs:
CPU: AMD FX 4100
GPU: GTX 1050 TI
RAM: 8GB

Solution
I would not recommend any CPU that will drop in your motherboard. That platform is dead and I would not put any money into it. The good news is moving up to a more modern CPU will really make a big difference. Streaming takes a lot of threads, so I would look at the AMD 1600. The 2600 is a better buy but will be a little bit more, so the 1600 will have to do.

Intel CPUs game better than AMD, but AMD will stream better then Intel. So AMD would be a logical choice. But you cant go wrong with the 8400 either.

Solution
FX 4100 is an AM3+ CPU. The faster end of the AM3+ range is the FX-9370.

You didn't state operating system, motherboard, PSU etc, so I'm just throwing the top end of that socket range in there. :)

To be fair, the FX-8370 is less power hungry. Suggest you visit a few sites, such as partpicker to see what's compatible with the kit you intend to keep.

Thanks!

Will my FPS be affected if I get Ryzen 3 while recording my gameplay?
By the way, I'm not gonna be live streaming I'm just gonna record my gameplay (or is it the same thing?)

This should put things into perspective with what your currently run. The Ryzen 3 1200 is a $100 budget CPU at the bottom of AMD's product stack and it is 70% faster than your 4100. So yeah, your fps will be significantly better rather you are recording or just playing.

When you're buying from AMD you should always get their top tier. Just get the 2600x. Intel always finds a way to make AMD's performance seem minimal. So, its just best to get their best stuff available at the time of upgrade.

What I meant was, using Ryzen 3, would my FPS be affected while recording my gameplay vs not recording?

Of course it will be affected, but will it be affected in a way where you notice huge performance loss, probably not.. Your average FPS has a lot to do with it also. If your average is at 60fps prior to record, you'll probably see it dip below 50 while recording.. Both the GPU and CPU play a factor in recording video game play.
