Best CPU For GTX 1060 ti 6GB

Well, I'm currently building a new gaming pc, i have chosen GTX 1060 ti 6GB as a GPU but i got confused between 2 CPU:

Core i5 8400 (2.8 x 6 cores)
vs
Core i7 7700 (4.2 x 4 cores)

Actually my budget is too restricted to the i5 one but i need to know what will be the best for gaming generally .. especially for longevity up to 5-6 years? of course i understand the compatibility of cpu with the motherboard but i'm asking about the gaming performance
 
Solution
For 60fps or even 100fps the 8400 is great and would give you the option of a 8700 in the future. The 7700 is slightly better but has no upgrade path. Personally I’d pick the 8400.

Thanks for this info, but maybe my budget can buy core i5 8500, does it worth? or keep with core i5 8400

I'd go for the i5 8400. The performance different isn't notable at all. If you want a step up from i5 8400 then I would look towards the 8600 or 8600k. The 8700 and 8700k are somewhat overkill for just gaming and are very expensive.

Thank you for you replying, actually my current budget is too restricted to the 8400 but maybe if i could able to save some money, i can buy 8500, from your perspective does it worth?

From a performance standpoint the two are virtually identical besides the slightly higher clock on the i5 8500. It has a few new features like Intel® TSX-NI, Intel® vPro, and Intel® Trusted Execution Technology which desktop users don't care/know about. It's basically an i5 8400 clocked up 0.2GHz with a couple new features. Outside benchmarks you'd never notice the difference between the two.

Thank you so much bro for this info, but from my perspective although the very limited difference between 8400 and 8500 but i think 8500 is still better

poor guy has chosen not the best solution. if u look closely at the banchamark https://youtu.be/nS-t2Z0Wc3I?t=4m29s and many 8400 users complaints (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3687287/i58400-bottlenecking.html) u ll quickly realize that 8400 is too weak cpu in some modern games like assassins creed origins, battlefield 1, witcher 3 itp.

I suggest looking into Ryzen 2 2600. It may provide 3% lower fps but u will never get nasty stutters. What is more Ryzen has twice more threads so your system will be more responsive since games will never choke cpu at 100% like 8400 can be,

I thought they found the error of stuttering on Intel cpus being related to HPET. Regardless don't buy the 8500 as the recommended processer for your build in the 8400. Ty good night

Well, according to benchmarks you've referred to, I can see 8400 is still the winner. First of all I'm supposed to run GTX 1060 with the 8400 so our guide here is the GTX 1060 ... and it will never produce any bottleneck while the old 1600 will bottleneck with the 1060 so what do you think about the higher one 2600 ... you can check bottleneck from here http://thebottlenecker.com/

Secondly: 8400 has turbo boost clock up to 4.0GHz while 2600 has 3.9GHz, turbo boost is automatically used when needed, no OC required so it will not affect temperature.

Thirdly I think gaming still works fine with 6 threads and until this moment there is no game that requires 12 threads or even 8. higher FPS is required in gaming for better peformance

The i5 8400 is a perfectly capable processor for current games and would not bottleneck a GTX 1060 6GB by any means. It has excellent single core performance and 6C6T which is solid in 2018. If you have performance issues with an i5 8400 then the issue lies somewhere else. The only weakness the i5 8400 has is that it doesn't have large thread numbers for heavily multithreaded applications so Ryzen blows it away in things like encoding and streaming; however current games don't really take advantage of large numbers of cores/threads which is why a a Ryzen 7 1800X performs the same in games (engine permitting) as the i5 8400 despite having 2 more cores and 10 more threads.

I really got surprised from the performance of AMD processors in gaming, although they have more threads. Multi-threading is usually considered a good thing that should increase performance generally in anything.

I've reviewed many benchmarks about INTEL vs AMD processors in gaming. its noticeable about the usage of processors that AMD has less usage than INTEL but logically looks like AMD are not using its full power of their processors in gaming, that's why gaming performance is higher in INTEL.

Well from my perspective, summary of all of that:
INTEL for gaming, AMD for works.
