hello guys ,
well , i have been using the i7 4790k for a while now and i encountered a problem few months ago which is over heating using the stock cooler
idle temp is about 50 to 60 degree and the real problem starts when i play any high video game the temp goes to 95+((no OC)) ...what i did is to set the "maximum processor state " in control panel power options to 75% instead of 100% ...it worked but the maximum MHz i get is 2600 not the 4400 ...now i re-set it to the default settings to 100% again and got the 4400 MHz and the idle is 70 or 60 and 95+ in games ...btw tried to run stress test from the "intel extreme tuning utility" and got 100+ degree in 3 sec from running the test so i shut it down ....

so plz can u give me any solutions ? like a good profile for the intel extreme tuning utility ty in advance

Stock coolers use those push pins, it may have become dislodged. Simplest solution is to re-apply thermal compound as that will remount it at the same time.

Or just go out and buy a decent aftermarket cooler. There is a reason Intel stopped shipping coolers with K and X class CPUs.

Seems to be thermal runaway. Quite strange. It's possible at some point you over heated the CPU and caused damage and now is over heating more due to the damage that was done. The only solution I can remecoment to to replace the heat sink ans hope you didn't damage it.

I'd suggest you first confirm the temp readings you're seeing are accurate. I built my 1st system with an i7-4790(non k) on an asus mobo, and relied on the Asus AI Suite III performance utility for temps. For three months it reported max temp of 67C while rendering video files. It finally hit me, it went to 67C consistently and that didn't seem logical - so i downloaded RealTempGT and showed temps were 98-100C. I then downloaded intel's Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU), figuring who would more accurately read an intel temp sensor than an intel utility, and found the same 98-100C temps.

2nd suggestion - get a better cooler as the stock cooler is a joke. My 4790 consistently hit high temps running it - a Cryorig H7 is a great value cooler (approx $35) - just confirm it will fit in your computer's case.

and don't worry about having damaged your cpu - like i said above, i had run it unknowingly at 98-100C temps for 3 months rendering video files (each file running 1-3 hours to render). Your intel cpu has thermal limiter in it, so that when temp hits 100C it automatically throttles the cpu's load back until temp drops some - that was why mine would drop top 98C, then bounce back up to 100C, only to repeat, After going with a better cooler, i started running benchmarks in intel's XTU, and after you run it it offers the choice to upload your score to their HWBot web to compare to others. You can select only users running the same mobo and cpu as you, and every time i do, i'm always in the top 5% score wise. So that temp or thermal limiter did it's job. That was over 3 years ago when i built that rg.

hope that helps some

Well i cleared the bios and that somehow solved the problem for me untill now....ty for your help guys ..and yes i will buy a new cooler gonna be the 212 evo not expensive and still does the job..now the idle temp is 30-45 and in games 60-70
