Should I upgrade my CPU?

Currently I have an i7-6700k and I am wondering if I should upgrade to the i7-8700k or the i7-7800X. I really want to know the main difference between the 8700k and the 7800X (besides the generation difference). I am getting pretty good performance still, but for newer products that are cheaper than what I have currently sounds great. If you need anymore info on my PC, here it is: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/HyperFirez/saved/#view=hgwQ7P ("Phantom v1". Also ignore the stuff that I haven't bought)

Both CPUs require a new motherboard as well.
Don't think the performance gains (if any) is worth the upgrade in this case.

People run the 2600K and say it still holds up well.
I recommend waiting until there's actually some improvement. Since Intel didn't have any competition from AMD (until Ryzen), they didn't really push for innovation. Which is why their old CPUs perform just as well as newer CPUs.

I am not entirely satisfied because some games like Minecraft (that are CPU based) aren't running as well as I think they should. I am mainly concerned with the fact that my CPU is 3-4 years old now and it might be slowing down soon.

Primary change other than generational improvements is memory support.
7800X can support quad channel up to 128 GB
8700K can support dual channel up to 64 GB

As for upgrading that really depends on what you are using the computer for. Please note that both CPUs require completely different socket types than each other. They are not drop in upgrades for your current motherboard.

Your processor isnt going to slow down with age, thats not something that happens on a lifespan we are concerned with. My 4590 is still performing and benching the exact same it did when my friend bought it for his system in 2014.

Seeing performance issues in minecraft on an i7 is not a reason to upgrade. Its not a CPU bound game. Its a java game, it has its limits.

Additionally, the 6700k isnt even 3 years old yet.

Alright. I guess for now it's fine. I am not noticing anything big so far. But when I am doing heavy tasks like mapping in a game (basically multitasking) it starts to slow down.

If you want more performance look, for a nice cooler like a Noctua or Dark Rock PRO and push for an overclock.

Then apply your overclock..

I have seen a guide on my MB and CPU OCing guide and you actually lose frames in games and gain little if any performance in other software, so it's really not worth it.
