New Router Advice

Hey! So I've had a Sky Router (Model SR102) for a long time now, but I want to set up my own router to get a more stable connection. I'm wondering if its possible? I play a few games on console frequently so I need to get a better internet. The router is downstairs and my console is upstairs but I can't move the router as it is connected to a master socket so I would love to get a router which I can move right next to my console. I'm pretty sure that I would be able to set the new router up, I just want to know if I can get a new one without any problems. Thanks.

You only get one router per residential installation, so unless you are sharing with neighbors in the lower flat you would be looking at adding an access point. The problem is that you need to connect it to the router, and wireless extenders don't work well for gaming.

Wireless is your last choice for gaming when far from (or on a different floor from) the wireless router.

If you cannot run an Ethernet cable, then the next choice would be a pair of AV2-1000/1200 powerline adapters. HERE is a good place to compare models.
