do gaming office looking chairs really help you

Solution
The idea with them is "LUMBAR Support".
You can buy add-ons that you sit into the back area of any chair to improve support.
The golden rule is 'Sit up straight, dont slouch' and never sit for too long..stretch, bend, move around..
They're going to be better than the $100 Staples special but they're over hyped. The good ones will be well constructed, but are still going to be gimmicky (unless you like finger grooves carved in to the arm rests). If you want a good chair that'll support you look at actual office furniture supply show rooms. I switched over to a Sitmatic a few years ago and it's been great.

Ignore the word "gaming", and buy something that works for you.

I have a DX Racer at home, and it is just fine. For me.
It replaced a $300 OfficeMax thing, that just was not right. Mainly, the chemical outgassing of whatever dead dinos it was made from.

As said...ignore the word "gaming".
Office work, or intensive eSports...you're still just sitting in a chair.

I'm not saying the DXRacer is the solution. But it (mostly) works for me. A little bit narrow across the shoulders.
But I've had it for 2(?) years...no complaints.
I'd not hesitate to get another one, if I ever needed one.

For 'serious back issues', maybe consult with your doc.

Go find one and sit in it. Same for the office chairs. Although if you look, especially at places like OfficeMax etc that'll have a good selection, they'll be labeled in classes. Some are good for upto 2hrs straight sitting, some upto as much as 12hrs. But it's your ash that's gotta park in it so it had better be comfortable.

Me, I hate my wife's ergo chair. It's one that's good for 12hrs. If I'm not seriously actively sucking down coffee, I'll be asleep in about an hour or less, it's that comfortable. $1000 chair, full lumbar support, padded wrist rests, thigh and hip support, massage, heat etc...
