Corsair SP120 Quiet Edition vs Cooler Master Sickle Flow 120X

Hey guys I was looking to buy fans for my 240mm radiator and I have 2 choices either the Corsair SP120 Q Edition or Cooler Master Sickle Flow 120X.

The specs for the Sickle Flows blows the SP120 out of the water yet everyone on every forum seems to say that the SP120s are better. The noise of the fans aren't a big consideration for me. My priority is cooling.

Could someone please explain how since all the specs point to the Sickle Flows being better. The Sickle Flows are half the price of the SP120s where I'm from and my question was basically are the SP120s that much better to warrant 2x the price?

This small roundup should help you decide since both fans are listed there,

To put it short, CM overrates their fan specs quite a lot. Some time ago, that specific fan also had it's CFM listed on the specs page by claiming to have 70 CFM. After some testing by the people, it was found out that the fan actually produced 42 CFM at 12V (source). From that time, Cooler Master has removed the CFM specs from their page. Though, testing static pressure is far harder than testing airflow and that's why no-one hasn't debunked the CM's claims of 2.94 mmH2O this fan produces.

Realistically speaking, i don't think Sicklefow...

Seeing above, for me the winner is clear.

This is the confusion though even after looking at the specs people don't recommend the sickle flows. Have you had any experience with either fans ?

With Corsair, you'll pay quite a bit for branding too, that's why any Corsair products have premium price. Also, Corsair SP120 fans are far more popular than CM Sickle Flow fans.

Though, for proper rad fan, i'd either go with Noctua NF-F12 PWM,
specs: https://noctua.at/en/products/fan/nf-f12-pwm

or Corsair ML120 Pro LED for some eyecandy too,
specs: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/LED-Color/Fan-Size/Package-Quantity/ml-pro-led-config/p/CO-9050042-WW

I have Corsair ML120 Pro LED fans in use in my Skylake and Haswell builds, full specs with pics in my sig.

I don't want Noctua fans since they look garish to me. The ML120s are obscenely expensive where I'm from.

The Sickle Flows are less popular but I wanted to know if their specs are correct then they should provide much better cooling than the equivalent SP120s.

Is that true?

Realistically speaking, i don't think Sicklefow produces 2.94 mmH20. Since when looking at the fan blades, Sicklefow has thin blades, which are mostly suited for airflow fan. Noctua that i linked above has fat blades, ideal for creating static pressure and that fan produces 2.61 mmH2O. Most what i'd give to Sickleflow fan (appearance wise) would be 1.00 mmH2O.

Cooler Master has their new specs page up and it lists the CFM as 90 +-10%

Makes sense, thanks a lot. I think I will end up going with the Corsair SP120s after all.
