I have a 500gig hdd and want to clone only windows 10 and keep the rest on the hard drive to save and get something cheaper like a 140gb or 250 gb ssd.but will cloning transfer everything meaning i would have to get a 500gb ssd or is there a program that only lets me clone windows 10?and if cloning copys everything with the os what do i use?

Solution
If you have 350GB actual consumed space, and a 500GB SSD....just like this:

Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables...

You'd have to have a large enough SSD to have everything transferred over as you can't just pick the OS. As for the software Samsung Magician should work fine (if Samsung SSD) or EaseUS should work. I've tried EaseUS with a Sandisk SSD and it didn't really work as expected so I usually just do a clean install of Windows onto the SSD.

You can't clone "only the OS". Will not work.

How much actual space is consumed on your current HDD?

It would be whatever HP recommends for cloning software, it's usually listed with the SSD when you buy it.

Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe as necessary.
Delete the 450MB Recovery Partition, here:
