Hello,

I’ve been looking at a monitor on Newegg lately.
The monitor says it’s 144hz but overclockable to 180hz everywhere.
It says it in the title, information and specifications.

Does this mean it’s totally safe and that i won’t void warranty?

I don’t want to break anything and 144 would still be great.
I just thought that if i could get extra why wouldn’t I?

Thanks.

Hi semvk8,

When you will apply the screen overclock, the worst thing that will happen is a black screen during 15s (the time for windows to reapply old settings).

BUT from 144Hz, it will be hard to notice a difference of smoothness, you will, perhaps, but does it worth the struggle?

As everything labeled with "OVER" make the component works out of the manufacturer specification, so for me, it voids the warranty.

You can rise the screen frequency until you see strange pixel behavior then dial back some Hz.

Thanks for the answer!
I’ve posted this message across multiple forums and every answer has been that, since it says it in the title and even (overclockable to 180hz) in the specifications that it won’t void warranty.
I even got some people saying they did this and did a repair after.

Is it possible that overclocking it won’t void warranty if it’s advertised on the product?

The only way is to ask directly to the manufacturer.
Because it can be overclocked up to 180Hz, great but it's like K Intel CPU's. You can overclock, marketed as overclockable, Motherboard are made to overclock BUT overclocking you'll void the warranty.

At the end, that's just marketing...
