Gtx 1070 SC freezes upon after driver update

So this a bit of a weird situation, after months searching I was finally able to get a EVGA GTX 1070 SC. Now the thing is that whenever I boot up my computer, it freezes after a 1 min on my desktop wallpaper. I try powering it off again & same thing happens. I try the uninstalling the driver's again with ddu & reinstalling them again but no success. I installed my other gpu the 1060 & everything works just fine. It doesn't freeze & I'm able to play the games just fine. Could this be a issue with my 1070 or perhaps my PSU? I have a Seasonic M12ii Evo 520 bronze. My specs are,
Xeon 1231 v3 CPU
H81m p33 motherboard
2 TB Western Digital black
1 TB Western Digital blue
Ripjaws X 16GB 1600mhz

I bought it from my friend since he recently upgraded to a 1080ti. We tested it on his rig just to make sure the card was working & everything ran smooth. My PSU is a Seasonic M12ii 520 bronze unit. From my understanding, the guy from Tech Deals said that a 500 Watts PSU should be more then enough to drive a 1070 & the entire rig.

So you think that the issue with my 1070 has something to do with driver's conflicting? Well good to know that at least I don't have to upgrade my PSU.

No that utility runs directly from Windows. You just need to make sure you are in administrator mode. I think it gives a pop up warning to run the utility as administrator. And this always goes without saying when it comes to messing around in Windows - set a restore point just in case something goes wrong as a precaution.

I tried the method that you told me & just when I thought it worked.....it froze again. Everything on my desktop was loading fine but after it froze again.

So to my understanding, whenever I uninstall the drivers for the 1070 it doesn't freeze up when I boot it up but whenever I do install the driver again it freezes.

That is highly unusual activity. Assuming this is not virus/malware related, at this point I would contact EVGA's support and see what they recommend. Their support is top notch which is why I only buy video cards from them.

Also, while extremely remote in chance, I would still not rule out entirely that power supply since this only happens when you have the card connected and try and use it. The GTX 1070 you have consumes 180W under max load which is 50W more than a typical dual-fan 6GB 1060 uses but again I cannot imagine that being the failure point here. The only way to be sure would be to buy say a 600W one and test it from a store that has a liberal return policy if that winds up not being the problem.

My friend already contacted EVGA since his card is still under warranty. They told him just to mail the card to them & they'll sent another one. Just find it a bit odd that his card worked well on his rig while on my rig even tho it did boot up & played my game for a good 15 mins until that happen.

At this point I have no idea. GPUs don't generally die when moving from one system to another unless something crazy like static electricity built up when you were handling it in the transfer and you happened to zap it. So it works in his, but not in yours. Did you/he test it back in his system it originally came out of *after* you tried it in yours?

Haven't gotten a chance to test it on his rig again since he's currently at work right now. But we'll test after he get off work & see if this issue happens on his rig. I'm currently using my 1060 atm & it's working just fine. It just odd that my 1060 works well but not the 1070. The moment I download the driver for the 1070 the issue happens.

The only thing I can possibly think of otherwise is your motherboard having a UEFI issue with the 1070 and the motherboard for whatever reason is telling Windows to use the legacy mode. It doesn't make sense though as the 1060 is of course along the same generation series and UEFI compliant.

As a final thought, check your motherboard's BIOS update support page and see if there's anything in there related to PCIe slot improvement on video card compatibility or fix.

Do I check from the BIOS or their website? Sorry if that's a dumb question to ask. Also a final thought, I notice that when I finish the installation drive for the 1070, I lose signal to the internet & as well when it's restarts my internet is not connected. But when it's the 1060, my internet signal doesn't get lost & it boots just fine with my internet. This is weird I must say. Even my old 950 boot up just fine.

I always get my driver from Nvidia site. From my 950 to my 1060 & never had issue on those cards. I also did try downloading a older drive for the 1070 to see if it was a driver issue with the new drive & no i still get the same issue.
