Dual Monitor gaming setup trips 20 amp breaker

Hello all,

Whenever I play a game (usually something with high graphics) after a certain period of time the 20 amp breaker trips. Now this never happened when I only had one monitor but once I included a second monitor then it would trip the breaker. It would be hit or miss when the breaker trips but it would happen once and a while and mostly when I'm playing a game.

With that said I tried several things; I've tried switching to a different monitor, I've tried connecting the second monitor to the integrated video card instead of my GPU, I even tried switching rooms. None of which solved the problem.

My thinking it's either the power supply or the GPU but I don't know for sure. I mean I can't rule out a faulty motherboard either so I'm kind of at a loss right now.

Now nothing else is in this bedroom besides my computer setup, a lamp, and a printer.

Computer specs:

- Intel Core i5-2500 3300 Mhz (quad core)
- Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd Z68A-D3H-B3
- 8 GB DDR3-1600 Memory
- Western Digital WDCWD3200AAJS-00VWA0 Hard Drive
- Main Monitor (LG L192WS)
- Second Monitor (Dell E197FP)
- Sandy Bridge Integrated Graphics Controller (4GB)
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 (4GB)
- Thermaltake TR-600 "TR2-600NL2NC"

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Unlikely that it would be the motherboard, your monitors or PSU would be most suspect IMO. A motherboard short would either cook the board or just shut down the system.

I have 5 computers ranging from an i7-6700 with 32GB ram and 1080Ti and dual 27 inch monitors to a lesser mobo/CPU with 8 8TB HDD on a RAID card and everything in between and don't trip my 20A breaker. You either have (1) a faulty system component that is shorting or (2) a problem with your 20A circuit. Both are serious issues, so you need to troubleshoot it to figure out where the problem lies.

Thanks for your response, my money is on a faulty system component but the problem is trying to figure out which one because like I said with one monitor the system works fine but once I included another monitor then that's when the tripping of the breaker began. The other annoying part is it's not consistent to when it trips, I can play several hours of a game on one night no problem but come another night 15 mins into the game and the breaker trips. Just hope it isn't the motherboard :S.
