Can't tell if I accidentally fixed my laptop or not. Please help.

Four years ago, my parents bought me a laptop, which, even at the time wasn't great. It was slow, rocking a dual core Intel Celeron N2830 (2.16 GHz) with integrated graphics and 4GB of RAM (Not sure what the speed is). The laptop was moving painfully slow so i wanted to take the ram from another laptop and install it in this one, since the stick was compatible and the other laptop wasn't in use. So i opened up my laptop and realized there was only one RAM slot. This meant it didn't make sense to install the other stick since it was also 4GB. I still took the RAM out of mine just for fun and reinstalled it. After doing this my laptop has been running extremely quickly and the memory usage has gone down a ton.
Is this possible, or is it just in my head?

Solution
It is very possible. There may have been contamination on the contacts.

One of the first things I do when troubleshooting a PC is I RE-SEAT EVERYTHING.

It is pretty amazing how often this fixes things.
