Well,I want to buy a gpu.My budget allows me to go either for EVGA 950 FTW(https://www.evga.com/products/specs/gpu.aspx?pn=643e3532-a35a-4bac-8be2-aabf59a00c39) at 120$ or a gtx 1050 at 150 dollars.Which one should I prefer?I will do some gaming at 1080p(not the latest titles) and some video edit.Is 1050 so much better than 950?

Solution
It's like a 5-10% performance difference between the 950 and 1050 on MOST titles.

The main difference to consider is that the GTX 950 requires external power, while the 1050 doesn't and gets its power straight from the motherboard.

The GTX 950 has more overclocking headroom because of the external power, so you could easily close that 5-10% speed gap by overclocking.

Personally, I would go for the GTX 950. If you want to save power, or do not have a PCI-e power connector on your PSU, for sure go with the 1050.

Not necessarily true on both points. It depends on the GPU vendor and model. EVGA for example has a 1050 FTW dual fan factory overclocked variant that require a 6-pin PCIe power supply connection. It can be overclocked well too. Asus has a high performance dual-fan factory overclocked variant as well.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from alexleh15 : "gtx 950 ftw vs gtx 1050"

I am considering buying an evga gtx 950 ftw (https://www.evga.com/products/specs/gpu.aspx?pn=643e3532-a35a-4bac-8be2-aabf59a00c39) which I believe is thought to be one of the best 950s.The gtx 950 will cost me 30$ less than the 1050.

1)Is it better or equal to a gtx 1050?
2) Is the fact that the gtx 950 requires an external power supply a bad thing for my pc?

I will use it for 1080p gaming and some video editing.

The problem with buying a GPU that is several generations old like that is that you never know if it was used in a mining machine or otherwise abused in overclocking for games. It's a dice roll. Also I'd suggest circling back and reviewing old GPU benchmarks on Guru3D that still use older GPUs on their DX11 benchmarks. Example:

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_1060_gaming_x_plus_review,24.html
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_1060_gaming_x_plus_review,25.html

I have not seen comparable benchmarks in newer DX12 titles on older GPU generations anywhere but I can't imagine the results being much different overall. All of this doesn't even factor in that Nvidia driver updates/fixes for newer games for the older GPUs mentioned above are dying out. Not sure about the AMD 79xx series and their driver/fix updates in newer games.

Then you have the fact that for example the reference HD 7970 has a TDP of 195W and a factory overclocked 6-pin EVGA 1050 FTW ACX 3.0 as mentioned above can overclock aggressively at no more than 120W TDP. Those two issues alone, at least for me, would be a no-brainer to leave has-been old GPU tech behind. I'd rather spend $165 (B&H Photo current price) on a guarantee than roll craps on a $80-$100 table. This is just where GPU prices are right now. That EVGA GTX 1050 FTW had a launch price of $139.99 if memory serves me correctly so compared to higher tier GPU overinflated prices, I don't think it is that bad. Just my opinion of course.
