What’s a good gaming chair?

Currently when I play games for a few hours, my lower back hurts or my butt does. I want a super comfortable chair that doesn’t go flat in a few hours. I’m 5’ 4” 150lbs. I sit with my legs crossed a lot too so I would like a decently wide chair but not too wide if you get what I’m saying. I looked at some dxracer chairs and all reviews either say it’s very good or it’s comfortable but doesn’t last long. The cheapest ones I’ve seen are still a hefty $300. What’s something more affordable that offers the same design and comfort as those chairs claim?

You need to buy a chair that is comfortable and good for your back because some chairs are comfortable but are really bad for your back. You can also just visit some stores and check them out and try them.

Do you have any recommendations? I know gaming chairs are designed for both but some ppl say it’s just name brand like gaming headphones where they aren’t really good and are overpriced

My current chair is cheap but comfortable it has a nice hard back and and soft seat but not too soft i like that, so you dont get any injuries in your back. It also help with gaming making you not lean forwards like some poeple do and then they get a wierd hump in their back.

Have you considered a standing desk instead. Much better for your back. Doesn't even have to cost you anything or hardly anything to try. Just put some blocking under your current desk and give it a month. It'll take some time for your legs to adjust if you don't spend much time standing.

There are also saddle chairs. Which put you in alignment similar to riding a horse. Which are supposed to be much easier on the back.

DX Racer is one of the most popular gaming chair brands. They make some good chairs, but they are not cheap either. They will have something for everyone.

I got a AKRacing chair at Microcenter a couple of years ago and love it. It is a DX Racer knock-off.

With that being said, a good office chair is the same, they just have a different skin on them. The key is you want a chair that has a bunch of options to adjust. This way the chair can be set up to meet your needs. So if it only goes up and down, I would avoid it. You want something that goes up, down, leans back/forward, pitch, and adjustable arm rest.

If at all possible bump up your budget and do go for a chair that is fully adjustable as has been suggested.

You can find plenty of low-priced chairs and modify or enhance them for more comfort. Overall they tend to fail or otherwise fall short in some manner fairly quickly.

You may go through 3 or 4 low-end chairs in as many years. A higher-priced chair can last for some years beyond that. Especially if treated well and cared for.

Do check used furniture stores or thrift shops. Yard/Estate sales as well. You may find a very good chair therein at a fraction of its retail pricing.

So not all gaming chairs are good for your back but I read that dxracer is good and people have reduced back pain from using them. Also is sitting with my legs crossed all the time bad? All the chairs I use have no arm rests so I have a ton of room but my knees are starting to feel not so good. I think getting a better chair will help me sit normal as it’s very uncomfortable to sit straight in all the current chairs I have. I don’t have desk chairs I have like dining table chairs or a wooden sort of rocking chair from that came with my dorm.

There are many factors to consider and you must find a balance. Do not focus on chair costs and features alone.

Do some additional research from another viewpoint.

Google:

"computer desk ergonomic position"

You will find many links with images.

For example:

https://www.techrepublic.com/article/10-ergonomic-tips-to-immediately-improve-your-workspace/

https://www.wikihow.com/Sit-at-a-Computer

Many, similar links to be found. You will find all sorts of explanations and product infomercials.

The goal is to be able to comfortably and safely sit (and stand sometimes) while you game or work.

And not have any pain or longer term side effects.
