I have a GTX 960 and unable to play latest games like Far cry 5 , Need for speed at my native resolution ie. 1440*900 and high setting.
So is it game over for Gtx 960??
what is my next best option for upgrade???
Also GPU prices are too high right now what should I do.

A 960 2GB/ 1050 2GB.... not ideal for 1440p you will definitely run into issues with VRAM.

A 960 4GB/1050 TI 4GB... Very minimum for 1440p, possible with lowest settings.

GPU prices.. yes these are still higher than what should be normal.

Price/Performance looks something like this at the moment

980 ti used $275-$320
1060 6gb $280-$360
980 GTX used $240-$300
1060 3gb $235-$300
970 GTX used $140-$225
1050 TI $175-$240 = to a 960 4GB used "$90-$140"

I've been grabbing quite a few used 960 4gb/970/980/980 Ti most of which still have 9 months to 24 months warranty left, you can see why by pricing. Your CPU is going to play a big factor in resolution as well.

You can try with reduced settings. Start with the lowest and then slowly work your way up. We could suggest a GPU off the bat but we'd also need to know what the rest of the system is.

List them like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

OFC, you've ruled out that the lags are only happening with the latest games, correct? Where did you source the games from?

1440x900 is even lower than 900p

16:10 aspect ratio 1440x 900 "900p"
16:9 aspect ratio 1600×900 "900p"

16:9 is what most people use, 16:10 looks weird on most things.

Far Cry 5
A G4560 matched with a RX 460 will do Ultra/High 1440X900 and stay between 40-60fps. A 960 either version is faster than a RX 460 so the issue would be CPU/RAM/ Drivers. That is much easier to run that 2,560x1,440 or 1440×1080. I tend to miss read things first in the morning. :ange:

I usually refer to 16:9 with #p to differentiate things like 1440x900 vs 1600x900. It similar to when 1080p ultrawide, 2k ultrawide, 2560x1080 is all called 1080p when it's not the same res as 1920x1080. I didn't have to explain it but you already knew I was referring to 1600x900 so it works.
