Hello everyone, I come to you today asking for assistance with an issue I've had twice now with using Display Port Output from my PNY GTX 1080.

For reference I have:
GPU: PNY Geforce GTX 1080 (VCGGTX10808PB-CG)
CPU: Intel Core i7 7700k
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z270P-D3 ATX LGA1151
Memory: Team - Vulcan (2 x 8gb) DDR4-3000mhz
PSU: Corsair - CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX
Storage 1: WD Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM HDD
Storage 2: 480GB PNY CS900 SSD
Monitor 1: Acer - GN246HL 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz
Monitor 2: Element ELEFW2217M 22.0" 1920x1080 60Hz
Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

I use an HDMI cable for display on my Element 60hz monitor and a DisplayPort cable for display on my Acer 144hz monitor.

The issue: BOTH times this has occurred I was launching Fortnite and both monitors would turn black and only my Element monitor would regain display with the Acer monitor taking a moment to find a signal. After a few seconds a corrupted display would appear on my Acer monitor. I'll supply a video of what this looks like at the end of this post.

This happened once before and I was able to fix it simply by disassembling my build and putting it back together however it has happened again and I've had no luck with fixing it nor finding a solution to my problem.

I'm not sure what has caused this issue and I'm not exactly sure what the problem is but I would like to know if it's a simple fix before I attempt to RMA the card.

I've verified that it is not an issue with the monitor as I am able to get a display via HDMI to the monitor. I am however unable to verify if the Display Port cable is to blame as I have no other displays that use Display Port. The cord itself appears to be in fine condition, no bends or breaks, and not of a low quality. I've ordered another Display Port cable to see whether the cable could really be the issue but at this point I'm fairly certain it's not.

I've reinstalled display drivers and have verified that I'm on the newest driver and have DDUd between driver installs. Any other suggestions or tips before I attempt the RMA?

Windows periodically updates device drivers. The problem is that the drivers that Windows installs are defective. They can be updated with the drivers from the manufacturer. In your case, download and install the graphics driver from geforce.com.

In my case, every time Windows updates the graphics driver my secondary monitor goes black. It may have something to do with your situation. You can check the update history to see if your problem matched up to an update.

So I've found a solution, albeit a simple one and probably only a temporary fix, I simply unplugged the monitor's power cable and plugged it back in. I can't imagine that single-handedly fixed the problem considering I did a variety of things all at the same time, although that was the only new thing I've done and I do recall unplugging EVERY SINGLE cable before. But if that did fix the issue, can someone explain to me how and why? Lol.

There is a method to reset the monitor. It involves just disconnecting the monitor cable and the power cord from the monitor for 30 seconds or so. Then just reconnect them and power it on. It is one of the first troubleshooting steps for the monitor.

It basically resets everything back to the manufacturers default settings.

Is there an explanation on why the monitor itself causes what appears to be a vram corruption issue though? I've seen things like this before and it's almost always been a card issue and suddenly my fix was as simple as unplugging and plugging my monitor back in?

No, that would only clear the settings on the monitor itself. You mentioned updating the graphics drivers. That may have cleared up the graphics card problems that you were having.
