Hi, Im trying to breathe new life into a 2010 build computer of mine.
One big thing is that it only has 4GB of ram. I use this computer for simple games and browsing (games like terraria and Divinity, and browsing with tonnes of tabs open ...like a normal person).

I am pretty sure I need to increase my memory to 8GB (16GB seems like overkill for what i use). I have 4GB of CAS8 DDR3 1600 memory but cant seem to buy that anymore. I can buy CAS 9 and CAS 11 stuff. I know you aren't really supposed to mix latency but will my motherboard just underclock the faster stuff? I dont really mind losing that speed.

As for the speed i will buy. I cant imagine that I can tell the difference between CAS 9 or 11 based on what I do, so i guess ill just get the slower stuff. Does that make sense?

Solution
its never good to mix and match ram because it will either not work or it will cause system instability. if you are trying to get 8GB of ram it would be better to go for a kit that has 2 4GB DDR3 sticks
