Hey I am in Australia and I found some good prices of video cards at Umart.com.au

I am in need of help choosing a 1080 Graphics Card that will suit my needs. I want to game (and stream/edit in future) at the best performance I can get while sticking to my budget. I was originally going to go for a 1070ti Graphics Card which was AUD$770 but I have found 1080 Graphics Cards for a similar price at Umart.com.au

Here is my Component List:

CPU: Intel S1151 Core i5 8600K 3.6GHz 6 Core CPU PN BX80684I58600K (No Heatsink Included)
Cooling: Corsair Hydro H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler CW-9060007-WW
Motherboard: MSI S1151 ATX Z370-A PRO DDR4 Motherboard
Desktop Memory: 16GB DDR4 Crucial (1x16GB) CT16G4DFD824A 2400MHz RAM module
SSD: 240GB WD Green SATA 6GB/s SSD Drive PN WDS240G2G0A
HDD: 1TB Seagate 3.5" 7200rpm SATA 6Gb/s BarraCuda HDD PN ST1000DM010
GPU: ???
PSU: 600 WATT Thermaltake Smart RGB White Power Supply PN PS-SPR-0600NHSAWA-1

Here is the 5 Cheapest 1080 Video Cards at Umart:

- Galax GeForce GTX 1080 EX OC 8GB Video Card - AUD$725
- Galax GeForce EX OC Sniper RGB Aluminum Backplate White 8GB GDDR5 - AUD$739
- Asus GeForce GTX 1080 Turbo 8GB Video Card - AUD$768
- Gigabyte GTX 1080 OC 8GB GDDR5X 1x DVI-D 1x HDMI2.0b 3xDP1.4 - AUD$775
- Galax GeForce GTX 1080 White HOF 8GB Video Card - AUD$799

Otherwise, here are some more expensive ones, HOWEVER, I will ONLY purchase one of the following if they are BETTER than the cheaper ones listed above.

- EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SC Gaming ACX 8GB Video Card - AUD$835
- Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X 1xDVI-D 3xDP1.4 1xHDMI2.0 - AUD$849
- MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Armour OC Gaming 8GB Video Card - AUD$849
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming 8GB Video Card - AUD$849
- EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW Gaming ACX 3.0 8GB Video Card - AUD$865
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 WindForce OC 8GB Video Card - AUD$879

Questions:

Q1. What 1080 Graphics Card do I get, and why?

Q2. If I get a 1080 Graphics Card, am I better off getting Intel i7 8700K CPU? If so, which DECENT, but CHEAP Motherboard should I get with the i7 8700K? Keep in mind, there is about a AUD$180 difference between i5 8600K and i7 8700K. I want my PC to be future proof as I will game a lot more once I graduate school at the end of this year.

Q3. I am not fussed on how quick a game will load, SO, will a 240GB SSD be fine for me?

NOTE: I will try to get a 144Hz Monitor (1080p...) - I can't afford any better.

Thank you so much in advance!

The main differences are:

1) Reliability (see customer feedback such as NEWEGG even if it's not your country), and
2) FAN COOLING

They all only overclock to roughly 2000MHz (some higher, some lower) but the fans make a huge difference in NOISE.

I'll take a quick look but I can say off the bat to avoid any BLOWER STYLE fans. Like the Asus Turbo as it will be too loud.

The GALAX cards appear to have less cooling (thus higher noise at times or throttling of the GPU to lower frequency depending on fan settings).

GIGABYTE might be best value if it's a 3-fan solution. I didn't see one with just the "OC" in the name but I did see this:
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/V4M323/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1080-8gb-windforce-oc-8g-video-card-gv-n1080wf3oc-8gd

(I realize that's the same card at the bottom of your list now)

I have the EVGA FTW 3.0 card which works fine. Pretty solidly built.

MSI Armor OC seems okay. Apparently better than the GALAX cards but probably not as good as the Gigabyte 3-fan cards.

So...
Not sure what to say except to try Googling reviews...

Note that graphics cards are still too high and they may DROP a lot in the next few months though no guarantees.

Q2: very few games need more than what the i5-8600K offers... it's six cores whereas the i7-8700K just adds hyperthreading... obviously the i7-8700K is more "future proof" but you don't want to sacrifice other components especially if you don't do anything more than what the i5-8600K offers

cheap motherboard? Don't spend lots of money on the CPU, Graphics card etc then skimp out on the motherboard. It's a much better idea to get the i5-8600K and put money towards a better motherboard

Q3: SSD
I recommend a 240GB SSD (i.e. Samsung) for Windows + applications, but an HDD for games, OS Image backup and mass storage.

I'd then get a secondary SSD as budget dictates for games that benefit from an SSD. That's a longer discussion but there's a few games (not many) that have texture load issues like the newish PREY (Bethesda), Fallout 4 (with HD texture pack), and of course games like SKYRIM where entering buildings/dungeons etc gets tiresome with an HDD.

Monitor: 144Hz 1080p

*It might be better to give a TOTAL BUDGET then try to get people to help you out that way. I'm not sure getting a GTX1080, i5-8600K/i7-8700K etc but only a 1080p monitor is the best balance.

Personally I'd consider going with a Ryzen AM4 platform such as R5-2600 (with compatible motherboard and 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL15/CL16) to save some money, then put savings towards a better monitor.

Possibly get just an HDD for now (and partition on Windows install so first partition is 200GB so you can clone that partition to SSD later) combined with balancing other parts to get a 2560x1440 monitor.

BUDGET would include:
a) Monitor
b) W10 64-bit
c) Case + internals, and
d) other? (i.e. mouse)

hey I'm sorry you're right, I should have been more specific.

I heard that AMD is much better for streaming than i5 8600k is, but then I heard you can stream perfectly fine with i7 8700k?

I would say my total budget is absolute maximum AUD$2000. This DOES NOT include Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Mouse pad and gaming chair (I don't have one haha) But I would like to fit those peripherals into a $500 budget, but that is my problem to work out, I am not here for peripheral options.

AUD$2000
- AUD$122 (OS)
- AUD$49 (Case)
- AUD$58 (Seagate 1TB HDD)
- AUD$225 (Crucial 16gb RAM)
- AUD$85 (WD Green 240GB SSD)
- AUD$75 (Thermaltake 600watt Smart)
- AUD$69 (Cooler Master MasterLiquid) ~ I changed the liquid cooler as Umart don't sell my original chosen one.

All this adds up to AUD$683, meaning I have AUD$1317 to spend on a:

- CPU
- Motherboard
- GPU
- And with left over money, to upgrade to a better SSD, RAM, Cooler etc. ONLY if needed, otherwise I want to keep as much left over money possible.

If I go for Ryzen, which one would be the best (in value and within my budget) for Streaming, Editing AND Gaming? These will be the only total uses of my PC.

If I go for Ryzen - Which Motherboard would you be able to recommend, as well as a Cooler that will fit in my budget.

I hope this makes things clear. Thanks so much

Oh that's right, I watched youtube comparisons and on average you get about 5 frames more per second with dual ram.

There is a $20 difference between the single and dual 16gb. Crucial 1x16gb is AUD$225, whereas Kingston 2x8gb is AUD$245. Will this be worth it?

Absolutely worth it, did you watch the video? You're spending all that money on a good CPU, motherboard and a GTX 1080 and for another $20 you can get 10-20% more performance, it's a no brainer.
