GPU fails upon higher resolution and/or use of driver

This concerns an AMD R270x.

The system with Windows 10 will boot, but as soon as the login screen should appear the image disappears from the screen.
I tested this system with another AMD card (R270) and the system would work flawlessly.

I tested the troubled GPU in another Windows 10 system.
Windows would boot and I could login, but the resolution was low.
As soon as I let Windows install a WHQL driver I would get a blank screen again.

Both systems worked with the R270 but would not work with the R270x when a corresponding driver was active.
Both HDMI and DVI were tested, and both systems had undergone a memtest86 without errors.
I also swapped PSU's to eliminate the possibility of a power issue.
I tested with three different screens.

So the question, Am I dealing with a broken card here, or can this be fixed somehow?

Quite possible that the card is giving/has given up. Might it be possible to share your full system's specs? List them like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:

I'm also assuming you've removed the drivers prior to dropping in the 270x and also using the latest drivers for both systems. Speaking of which are they both identical system's specs? Have you tried older drivers when the 200 series was launched to rule out latter drivers being the culprit?

Thank you for your reply.

I am not at home at the moment, but later this day I will write out the specs for both systems.

A friend of mine, from who I borrowed the 270, mentioned no problems with his GPU and we both keep our drivers up to date.
Strange though that the 270x would have problems with a newer driver where the 270 does not.

I'll try a driver from around mid 2015, when I purchased the GPU.
It's best to be sure that I'm not having a driver problem before spending who knows how much money these days on a new GPU.
