Hi,

i play alot of overwatch on my laptop while i live at school, its a Dell xps 9560, i5 and 1050 2gb.

i have the laptop hooked up to a 144hz monitor and normally i get around 120-140 fps constantly while playing which is perfect, but today, while gaming the performance dropped suddenly to 30fps, and hovered from 14fps to 45fps, which as i was playing in 4.2 grandmaster range was totally unplayable, restarted, has been happening after 5 mins of gaming every time now.

at first i thought thermal throttling, so i installed a monitoring program and it says i was maxing at 50C which is completely fine, but the CPU speed has still dropeed to around 0.7ghz?

does anyone have any answers?

Modern systems clock your CPU down well before they would hit critical temps,so either it is thermal throttling or your battery is dying and can only provide the lower clocks.

You might try setting the power plan to performance, possibly overriding Dell's power plan which will usually target power efficiency/battery life, etc...

See if the laptop is capable of running solely on the AC adapter with no battery installed....

the battery is fine, i use it off charge everyday, but the system has handled these temperatures before with no issues, and these temps are not bad right? anything below 60C should be no where near throttling
