GPU Upgrade Recommendations?

Team- sorry for the noob question but having a hard time understanding which GPU to buy. My son has a computer with a 600 Watt PSU, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 740. He says the 740 is laggy under STEAM. Looking for something under $300.00. Is that realisitic?

Adding CPU-Z Report minus a lot of register data. Will get you the Power Supply model- but I know it's a basic, cheapie 600 watt off of amazon. Probably this one

Is it possible to get the manufacturer and model number of the power supply?

Also, knowing something about the monitor would help - again, manufacturer and model number, or if you know, the screen resolution and refresh rate.

Assuming he's looking to game at a resolution of 1920x1080 with a refresh of 60Hz, a 6GB version of the GTX 1060 would be ideal. Those are generally in the $310-$360 range, though. The 3GB version of the GTX 1060 is notably less, but it's also a less capable card.

However, a 1050 or 1050Ti as recommended by others is still a very big improvement over the GT 740.
