Do I need a gaming router to reduce ping?

Hi, I live in New Delhi, India. I have a 100mbps broadband connection but when I play Overwatch I get a ping of 150-170ms. Earlier my connection speed was half and ping was same as now. I connect to Overwatch's Asia server. I believe the game has many servers in every region at different places. But the ping is never lower then 140ms.

I don't have any router or a modem. The cable just connects directly to my desktop via jack into the ethernet port. My ISP (excitel, New Delhi, India) says they use dark fiber technology.

Will buy a good gaming router improve my ping much?

Improving download doesnt mean that ping gets better, from my experience, ping has gotten worse every time. So call the ISP and ask

Ping will not reduce probably from buying a new router, try some different server and check pings. What I'd do is call the ISP and tell them what the problem is. Check if the cable is in fully aswell.

Overwatch will automatically attempt to connect you to the nearest server with lowest ping. Sometimes you'll be matched on a farther server due to your matchmaking rating being similar to people that are currently searching a game in closer proximity to that server.
You could shave off a few ms by using a VPN with better route, but ultimately you'll be stuck with what you have due to geographical distance.

Thanks for quick replies.
But I don't understand why the ping is same even when my broadband speed is doubled? Uploading and downloading a file happens really fast. I have consistent speeds when downloading large files such as games. It used to happen at 6 mpbs constant speed. Now its at about 11mbps. What gives?
